Oma V. Prater

Oma V. Prater, 89, passed away on May 29, 2022 in Dekalb, Illinois. Oma was born on September 3rd, 1932 in Hurley, Virginia. After retiring, Oma enjoyed reading, music, current events, watching the Chicago Bears and the Chicago White Sox, getting away from the cold Illinois winters to Key West Florida, a “good” cup of coffee and could “sliver” a coffee cake like no other. Oma’s greatest love was being surrounded by her ever growing family which included: 8 siblings, 9 children, 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Oma will be fondly remembered for her smile, infectious laugh and her kind and gentle soul.

Oma is preceded in death by her parents; Grant and Lizzie, husband; Buford Lee, daughter; Deborah Lynn, granddaughter; Jaime Faith, sisters; Thelma, Mary and Nellie, brothers; Johnny, Jessie, Clatis and Joe.

Oma is survived by her children (daughters); Susan, Lisa (John), Cheryl (Henry) (sons); Michael (Charlotte), David, Jeffrey, Gregory (Cathy), Mark.
(brother); Ray (Shirley), (niece); Madeline (Mike).
