Patrocinio "Pat" Romero, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully at home on December 3, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on May 8, 1934, in Lingayen, Pangasinan, Pat touched the lives of many throughout her remarkable journey.
Pat attended Pangasinan Normal College where she received a Bachelor of Education in 1960. As a dedicated educator, Pat began her career as a Home Economics teacher at Naguelguel Elementary School in 1961, inspiring young minds with her passion for teaching. In 1977, she migrated to the United States, where she continued her service to others in the medical field. From her work as a Patient Care Technician at Elmhurst Hospital to her time in a nursing home, Pat was cherished by her patients and coworkers alike. She later moved to Glendale Heights Hospital, from where she retired in 1999, leaving a legacy of compassion and kindness.
Pat was not only a devoted professional but also a loving family member. She was known for her big heart which welcomed all who entered her home. With an unwavering faith and commitment to God, she served as a prayer warrior, offering support and comfort to those around her. Pat adored spending time with her family, particularly during the holidays, where her generous spirit shone brightest. She would always cook their favorite meals, making her home a sanctuary filled with love and warmth.
In addition to her joyful nature, Pat was a woman of many interests. She found joy in cooking, gardening, crocheting, and cherishing moments with her family. Her dedication extended beyond her immediate loved ones, as she continually found ways to give to those in need, exemplifying her boundless generosity.
Pat's proudest accomplishments included acquiring her driver's license at the age of 43 after practicing on a go-kart—a triumph she achieved through sheer determination. Moreover, she fought tirelessly to bring her six children to a new country, demonstrating her strength and resilience.
Pat was predeceased by her parents, Marcelino D. Cruz and Carmen de Guzman Cruz, and she leaves behind a cherished legacy through her surviving family. She is survived by her beloved sister Enriqueta Tan (husband Larry), and sister Esmeralda Manuel (husband Pete). Her children— Percita Santos (husband Gilbert).Joel Romero (wife Brenn), John Romero (wife Shirley), Permalie Truong (husband Thanh), Jose Romero (wife Abigail), and Pergelie Held (husband Shane). Pat was also a proud grandmother of 22 grandchildren (Jessica, Matthew, Timmy, Christian, Nathan, Isaiah, Julie, Alex, Jade, Jazzy, Jonathan, Sabrina, Serena, Kaleb, Marika, Kyle, Elizabeth, Nico, Kamden, Kruz, Knox and Kash) and four great-grandchildren(Arwen, Ruby, Thomas and Olivia), each of whom she adored and cherished.
Her family invites all who knew and loved Pat to join in remembering her life during the visitation at Salerno's Rosedale Chapels in Roselle, Illinois, from 3 PM to 9 PM on December 12, 2025. A mass celebrating her life will be held at St. Isidore Parish in Bloomingdale, Illinois, on December 13, 2025, at 9:30 AM.
