The word “beautiful “always came to mind when talking about Peggy. It referenced not only her baby blue eyes, but also her gentle and undemanding spirit. She drew people in, as her sweetness was pervasive. She always had a big smile and a hard hug upon greeting those she cherished. That smile was ever present for anyone who was in her orbit. She had a playful sense of humor, and you could always depend on having great laughs with her.

With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, we announce the passing of Marguerite (Peggy) Eva Voss (née Steindl), age 88, following a brief illness that took our breath away.

Peggy was born on September 1, 1937 in Chicago, where she lived throughout her life. She was first a homemaker and loving mother and later worked in the insurance industry. In her spare time, she did beautiful crochet work and gifted all her grandchildren with little white sweaters. In 1980, she met the keeper of her heart in the most random way, while waiting in line at a fast-food restaurant on her lunch break. It was a speedy courtship and just 3 months later, they astonished their family by getting married in December of 1980. They shared a love of, and talent for, gardening, spending time with any of their 7 combined children and traveling.

She is survived by an abundance of devoted family, her husband Ronald Voss who will miss her beyond words, her children, Debbie (Gary) Rose, Donna (Michael) Rigert, Nick (Leslie) Petramale, Dean (Lisa) Petramale, bonus children David (Susan) Voss, Susan Voss, Amy (Brad) Gorst, grandchildren Jimmy Rose, Brandon Rigert, Brooke Sackett, Chad Rigert, Camrin Petramale, Chloe Christiansen, Joseph Petramale, Michael Petramale, Carley Pontarelli, Kellie Voss, Jenny Spoelma, Erica Male, Kayla Gorst, Addie Gorst, Brian Gorst, Nichole Brown and Angeline Voss. She was also graced with 17 great-children, the last one arriving just a day before her passing which provided the family with a burst of joy in the midst of such heartache. She also leaves behind sisters Eddie Wielgopolan and Linda Wroblewski, who was her built-in best friend throughout her life, and cherished nieces Alisa Jonen, Stephanie Wroblewski and her godson, Guy Wroblewski, who she spent more time with in later years. Also close to her heart were six more nieces, the late Beth Rickards, goddaughter Amy Schubert, Rebecca Wells, Harper Guerra, Greer Davis, and Phoebe Balentyne. Preceded in death are her parents, Margaret and John Steindl, and brother Jack Steindl.

The family will be celebrating Peggy’s life on Friday, April 24, 2026 from 10:00am to noon, with a service at 11:30am at Salerno’s Funeral Home, 450 W Lake St, Roselle, Illinois.
