Pennie Saunders, 90, is at peace now, having gone home to the Lord. A long time resident of Elmwood Park, she passed away much too soon on January 9, 2018, surrounded by her loving, devoted family after waging a courageous battle against pneumonia. Cherished daughter of the late Nicholas and Sarah Kledones; adoring wife for nearly 60 years of the late Harry E. Saunders, Sr.; proud mother of Harry, Jr., and Gregory (Diane); loving grandmother of Andrew, Alex, and Allison; fond brother of the late James Kledones. Pennie was born and raised in Chicago, her parents having emigrated from Greece. She spent her entire career working in various areas of finance beginning at Household Finance Corp. where she started as a cashier and advanced herself to head cashier. After taking a brief break to start a family she returned to work at St. Paul Federal Saving & Loan Assoc. beginning as a teller and eventually retiring as a Mortgage Loan Officer. Becoming bored with retirement, she returned to work as a Mortgage Loan Processor at Home Express Mortgage Corp. which was co-founded by her late husband. Additionally, she worked at Sondad Properties also co-founded by her late husband with their son Harry, Jr. She was truly a very genuine down-to-earth “people person”. She possessed endless energy, always giving of herself and drawing strength from the time spent with her family and many good friends. Funeral Tuesday, January 16th at 9:30 a.m. from Salerno Galewood Chapels, 1857 N. Harlem Ave., Chicago, to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 6041 W. Diversey Ave, Chicago.
