It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Ramon Mercado Jr., 45. Ramon was born in Manila, Philippines on January 21, 1981 and has been a longtime resident in Schaumburg, Illinois. Ramon joined Jesus with his mother and father, Rosalita and Ramon Sr., on March 9, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife and children at his side.
If you are family, or consider yourself a friend of Ramon, you will know that he had a humorous and loud presence. Laughing, and joking around was a big part of his personality and one of the biggest gifts that God gave him. He used his gift to make his children laugh in long car rides, and to make light of serious situations like hospital stays or receiving bad news. No matter how serious the room was, you can always count on Ramon to crack a joke, it was just one of the ways he dealt with life, because he knew just how precious and short life is.
Ramon considered himself to be blessed, he was a family man who believed in family first, he provided a good life for his wife and children, was a hard working provider, and often opened his home to help people in need. As a family, if a particular movie came on, the entire family would stop whatever they are doing and watch together as a family. Ramon understood making a connection with each one of his kids, whether it's cooking together, or fun car rides, or getting matching tattoos. Ramon was a loyal friend to all, he made his friends' problems his own, that is why he leaves behind so many who will miss his friendship. Ramon enjoyed supporting his Chicago teams and often represented team spirit. You will often see Ramon with a Chicago jersey and hat, because he loved Chicago. He also loved to cook, often for parties, he would get asked to bring his famous dishes. His children were his taste testers and pot stirrers, now they continue to carry on his legacy as well as his recipes.
Ramon will always be remembered as a fighter. However, losing his fight with cancer, his loving wife, Faith, never left his side. Through it all, Faith was the rock and the one that carried hope. She held the roof over her entire family, you never saw panic, you never saw defeat. You only saw strength, compassion, hope, and most importantly, love. It was Ramon and Faith's love for each other that held this family together and what makes it unbreakable still.
Ramon is survived by his loving wife, Faith, and children Nicholas (26 ), Jocelyn (23 ), Tessarose (15 ), and Madison (11 ). He leaves behind his family, brother CJ, sister Michelle, and youngest brother Daryl, Lola (Grandmother) Julita R. Acosta. Ramon also had a special relationship with each one of his many nieces, nephews and cousins.
On behalf of Faith and her family, thank you to all those who visited, called or sent a sentimental note. Your thoughts and prayers have meant a lot to the family and are thankful for your friendship. We mourn and grieve with you also as we recognize that you have lost someone too, but know that Ramon is at peace now, no more pain, no more sorrow, only Love.
