Robert E. Quinn

Robert E. Quinn, affectionately known as Bob, died on September 2, 2026, at the age of 98. Born on March 11, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late William and Ella (nee Cleary) Quinn, he lived a long and meaningful life marked by steadfast love, quiet strength, and remarkable perseverance. After years of living heroically with the challenges of chronic kidney disease, his body at last grew weary.

Bob will be remembered with deep love by his family and by all who were blessed to know his steady presence. He now rejoins his beloved wife, Mary Ellen Quinn, whose memory remained a cherished part of his life. Bob was also preceded in death by his sister, Helen Marie “Re” Stapleman, and by his brothers, William J. “Bud” Quinn and John J. “Jack” Quinn. He joins his beloved family members and dear friends who passed before him, reunited at last with all those who shaped his life story.

Bob leaves behind a devoted family who will carry on his spirit of strong faith, generosity, and hard work with gratitude, love, and affection. His children, Mary Pat Headley (Jim); Anne Reedy (Jack); Bob Quinn (Debbie), Bill Quinn (Monica); and Kathleen McColaugh (Mike), mourn his passing and give thanks for his life. His legacy continues in the lives of his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Daniel Headley (Toni, daughter Kennedy); Patrick Headley (fiancé Margaret Bennett); Thomas Reedy (son Liam); Sean Reedy (Alix, daughter Eliana Rose); Nathan Reedy (Jacque, son Owen); Jake Reedy; Bryan Quinn (Lexie, daughter Chloe and son Connor); Kevin Quinn (Pia, son Cullen); William Quinn (Jaimee, sons Theodore and William); Michelle Dowell (Luke); Molly Quinn; Robert McColaugh; Scott McColaugh (fiancé Jacqueline Carlucci); and Matthew McColaugh. They are the living testament to the family he loved so dearly.

Bob’s strong work ethic was evident early on. While attending Northwestern University, he chose to leave college to provide for his growing family. Through sheer determination, he built a distinguished career in the die-cutting industry, ultimately serving as the prominent owner of Graphic Arts Finishing Company. He took immense pride when Mary Ellen, his children, and several relatives and family friends joined him there, turning the business into a true family endeavor rooted in shared values and mentorship. His career was a testament to what can be accomplished through tenacity, sacrifice, and faith, and he took great pride in the people and relationships that grew alongside the business.

One of Bob’s greatest joys was his cottage in Michigan, his own little piece of paradise. It was a place where the whole family gathered, often surrounded by extended family as well, creating countless memories and strengthening the bonds that meant so much to him. The cottage was a place of laughter, togetherness, and simple pleasures.

Bob and Mary Ellen spent many “happy hours” there, with him puttering in the garage, taking leisurely pontoon boat rides, and watching the beautiful Lake VanAuken sunsets. With a cocktail in hand, they enjoyed the peacefulness of the lake and the gift of time together. For Bob, the cottage was much more than a getaway, it was a special place where family came together, traditions were formed, and his love for his family was celebrated.

On their honeymoon, Bob promised Mary Ellen that they would go to Florida every year. Although it took many years for that dream to become a reality, Bob kept his promise. Bonita Springs became a special place for them, where they made wonderful friends and enjoyed many happy years together. It also became another favorite gathering place for family, filled with laughter and time together.

The love Bob gave to his family was enduring, and the example he set through resilience and faithfulness will not be forgotten. His long life stands as a witness to devotion, endurance, and the quiet dignity with which he met both joy and hardship.

Bob lived his Catholic faith each day through daily Mass and Rosary, active parish leadership, and his commitment as a Knight of Columbus. This was the foundation of his life and an example to his family and community. Through his quiet devotion and service, he showed his children and grandchildren what it means to live a life anchored in faith, love, and family.

Bob’s life was a testament to love, family, hard work, and devotion. He leaves behind a family who will forever be grateful for his guidance, his example, and the many blessings he brought into their lives. May he rest peacefully in the loving arms of God, reunited with Mary Ellen and all those he loved who went before him. His love will live on in the generations he leaves behind.

May Robert E. Quinn rest in peace, and may his family find comfort in the lasting blessing of his life and love.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Salerno's Rosedale Chapels, 450 W Lake St, Roselle, Illinois 60172. Prayers and final viewing will take place on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at Salerno's Rosedale Chapels. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:45 a.m. at St. Isidore Parish, 427 W Army Trail Rd, Bloomingdale, Illinois 60108. Interment will take place at All Saints Cemetery, 700 N River Rd, Des Plaines, Illinois 60016.
