Ron grew up in Melrose Park, IL. After graduating from
Proviso East High School, he entered the Marine Corp in 1943.
Ron served in the 5th Marine Division that landed on Iwo Jima
in February of 1945 where he was wounded and awarded the
Purple Heart. After 6 months in several hospitals, he returned
home.
Ron and Virginia (dec. 1995) married in 1948 and settled in
Forest Park, then Bellwood, and in 1978 built their home in
Bloomingdale where he loved sitting on his deck looking out on
the lake. They faithfully attended St. Isidore Catholic Church.
He was an active member of VFW Post 7539 and looked
forward to the monthly meetings, their many activities, and
being with his fellow Marines.
Ron was a Postal Worker for 38 years. After retirement he
worked another 10 years at Deluxe Check Co. Not one to sit
still, he then worked for his nephew part time at Pioneer
Garden Center in Villa Park. Many of his evenings were spent
umpiring high school and semi-pro baseball.
Ron loved baseball and the Chicago Cubs was his team. His
prayers came true when together, the family watched the Cubs
win the World Series!
A great dad, Ron coached son Jim’s baseball teams and he was
active in the Park District. He attended all of daughter Sue’s
music events.
Ron loved and enjoyed being with his 7 grandsons, Kevin,
Scott, Shaun, Chad, Ryne, Chris, and Matt, and was blessed with
10 great-grandchildren.
Ron was fortunate to remain in his home where he was
lovingly cared for by son Jim who lived with him.
Ron lived a healthy, happy life of 97 years and had a peaceful
journey Home.
