Ron Voss October 6, 1935 – August 8, 2026
Dad, Pops, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa. Ron brought joy to his family and everyone fortunate enough to know him. He lived with a positive outlook on life and had a remarkable gift for making others smile.
Ron never met a stranger. Whether at a restaurant, church, Costco, or even a toll booth, he was always striking up conversations and making new friends. He genuinely enjoyed brightening someone's day. Quick-witted, kind-hearted, and endlessly devoted to his loved ones, Ron's greatest pride was his family.
With hearts full of both gratitude and sorrow, we announce the passing of Ronald Lee Voss, age 90, who could hardly wait to reunite with Peggy in Heaven. At the time of his passing, he was living in memory care near his daughters in Florida.
Ron was born on October 6, 1935, in Freeport, Illinois. He lived there until serving two years in the United States Army. He later attended North Central College, earning a bachelor’s degree in commerce, and spent most of his life in the western suburbs of Chicago.
In 1974, Ron founded his landscaping company, Imperial Care of Premises, which he successfully operated into his 80s. He loved designing beautiful landscapes and caring for them on behalf of his clients, taking pride in improving the lives and surroundings of others through his work.
In 1980, he met the love of his life, Peggy. They married soon after, blending their families and building a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion. Ron spoke of his gratitude and love for beautiful Peggy many times each day, both during their 45 years together and especially after her passing in April of this year. He has now joined her in Heaven, where they are together once again.
Ron enjoyed bowling, golfing, traveling, and, most of all, spending time with family and friends. He and Peggy shared a love and talent for gardening and treasured every opportunity to be with their seven combined children.
He is survived by his children, David (Susan) Voss, Susan Voss, and Amy (Brad) Gorst; his bonus children, Debbie (Gary) Rose, Donna (Michael) Rigert, Nick (Leslie) Petramale, and Dean (Lisa) Petramale; and his grandchildren, Nichole Brown, Angeline Voss, Kellie Voss, Jenny Spoelma, Erica Male, Kayla Gorst, Addie Gorst, Brian Gorst, Jimmy Rose, Brandon Rigert, Brooke Sackett, Chad Rigert, Camrin Petramale, Chloe Christiansen, Joseph Petramale, Michael Petramale, and Carley Pontarelli. He was also blessed with 18 greatgrandchildren.
Ron is further survived by his sisters-in-law, Dory Voss, Eddie Wielgopolan, and Linda Wroblewski; and by many beloved nieces and nephews, including Dale Ackerman, Denny Ackerman, Dave Ackerman, Larry Voss, Linda Kryder, Mike Voss, Alisa Jonen, Stephanie Wroblewski, Guy Wroblewski, Amy Schubert, Rebecca Wells, Harper Guerra, Greer Davis, and Phoebe Balentyne.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Peggy Voss; his parents, Martha and Harvey Voss; his sister, Shirley Ackerman; his brother, Lamoine Voss; his niece, Beth Rickert; and many dear friends and family members who welcomed him home.
Ron's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and unwavering love for family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
The family will be celebrating Ron’s life on Monday, August 31, 2026 from 10:00am to noon, with a service at 11:30am at Salerno’s Funeral Home, 450 W Lake St, Roselle, Illinois.
