Roy LaCour, 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2025. Roy was born in Natchez, Louisiana to the late Matthew and Hazel LaCour on December 20, 1928. He was a devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather and a proud Army veteran.
Roy grew up on a farm in Louisiana, where he worked long days and gained lifelong skills. Wanting a change, Roy moved to Detroit where he experienced a big one: he was drafted into the Army to serve in the Korean War. He loved to joke about how he should have been a cook instead of working in the motor pool. In 2017, he was honored for his service on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C.
On February 12, 1953, Roy married his soulmate, Leona; they shared 68 wonderful years of marriage. They moved to Chicago where they planted their roots, raised two sons, and built a beautiful life together. Roy worked as an auto body technician until he retired very happily at age 62. During his retirement, Roy could be found spending time in his garage fixing bikes for casino money, making popcorn balls (or fried bread) for his grandkids, or sitting around a poker table playing cards.
He had a gift for telling stories. In his thick Louisiana accent, Roy would light up when talking about anything (and everything) to anyone who would listen. Anyone lucky enough to hear him tell a story was instantly captivated by his charm.
His wife, Leona, and his son, Craig (Tammy) LaCour preceded Roy in death. Roy is greatly missed by his son, Kevin (Marianne) LaCour, and his grandchildren Kyle LaCour, Caitlin LaCour, Christin LaCour, and Jackie (Justin) Voss. Roy’s family also includes his siblings, Barbara (James) Roque, Betty Domingue, Wilford LaCour, Vera Legaux, Vincent (Nellie) LaCour, and the late Eugene LaCour. He was a fond uncle to Bryan (Kathy) Metoyer and Lisa (Brian) Trishman amongst many other nieces and nephews and extended family members who loved and adored him.
Visitation services for Roy will be held at Salerno's Rosedale Chapels in Roselle, Illinois, on Thursday July 17, 2025, from 3:00-8:00 PM and Friday July 18, 2025, from 9:00-10:00 AM. A funeral service will be held at the same location on July 18, 2025, at 10:00 AM, with his burial to follow at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois.
