Sandra Lee Theis

Sandra “Sandy” (Hasse) Theis, 82 of Huntley, IL entered her eternal home on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Sandy was born on June 9, 1944 in Elmhurst, IL to Herbert and Bertha Hasse. She grew up in a household in unincorporated Roselle with 7 siblings. She attended elementary school at St. Peter Lutheran School in Schaumburg and graduated from Palatine High School in 1962.

Sandy married the love of her life, Chuck on December 3, 1966. Together they built a beautiful life and raised four children: Julie, Jackie, Ken and Jenny. They resided in Bloomingdale for over 30 years. They became members of Trinity Lutheran Church in 1975 and are still active members watching church online when unable to attend in person. Eventually they retired and moved to Huntley in 2006.

Sandy was very creative. Whether it was sewing, arts and crafts or making homemade gifts, she paid attention to every single detail. She loved to cook and host gatherings; birthdays, dinner with friends and all holidays. Her tables were decorated perfectly with fresh flowers, table linens and had every color of cloth napkins to coordinate for any occasion. She also loved helping people. She did not hesitate to offer her time and talents to help others and always went above and beyond to make you feel special. Even in retirement, she was very active. She was in the choir, the Sunflower Garden Club and attended weekly bible studies.

Sandy could not wait to become a Gramma and finally received that title in 1997. She was extremely proud of all of them and their biggest supporter. She spoiled them every chance she could. Every birthday she would send the kids cards with cash equaling their age.

In early 2026, Sandy was diagnosed with lung cancer. She fought the good fight for 6 months, but ultimately her body was tired and we had to make the tough decision to move her to hospice. The employees at Ascension Alexian Brothers Hospice Residence took phenomenal care of her and we cannot thank them enough for the unlimited love, kindness and compassion that was given to her and her family.

Sandy is survived by her husband of 59 years, Chuck, her children Julie (John) Plantz, Jackie Schelling, Ken Theis and Jenny (Randy) Grzenia and her grandchildren Jake, Hailey and Ashley Plantz, Jessica and Luke Schelling and Katelynn Grzenia. She is also survived by her brother, Larry Hasse.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Bertha Hasse, her sister Carol Busche and her brothers Herb, Fritz, Chuck, Jim and Dan Hasse.

Sandy was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, gramma, aunt, cousin and friend to so many. While we all will miss her greatly, we can rejoice in knowing she is finally with Jesus and we look forward to the day when we can see her again.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Sandy’s memory to Ascension Alexian Brothers Hospice Residence in Elk Grove, IL.
