Sean Michael Leahy, 26, of Bloomingdale, Illinois, passed away on September 18, 2026.

Taking care of the people he loved came naturally to Sean.

Sean was the kind of person people naturally turned to. He was brilliant, deeply curious, and always willing to listen, but what mattered most to those who knew him was the way he cared for the people in his life.

From the time he was little, Sean was energetic, expressive, and determined to understand the world around him. He always wanted to know why and could rarely stop moving, whether he was running, jumping, or dancing. He loved to read and would stay awake with a flashlight long after he was supposed to be asleep.

Sean had an incredible ability to learn. When something caught his interest, he would spend hours reading and researching it, retaining every detail and understanding how everything fit together. He had a deep love of history and a genuine curiosity about the world. His memory was remarkable, and he could recall conversations, dates, places, and details long after everyone else had forgotten them.

Taking care of the people he loved came naturally to Sean. He noticed when someone needed help and stepped in without waiting to be asked. He could see both sides of a disagreement, offer thoughtful advice, and help people find their way back to one another. His family could always count on him to make the people around him feel supported and less alone.

Sean shared a special relationship with each of his parents. He and his mother spent many late nights talking, making pizza, working on puzzles, and enjoying the quiet hours together. He was patient and thoughtful, always ready to make her dinner, bring her tea, or simply keep her company.

His father especially treasured their conversations. Whether they spoke for a few minutes while dinner was cooking or spent hours discussing a subject in depth, Sean always had something thoughtful and interesting to say. Those conversations often gave his father a new way of looking at the world.

Sean loved animals, and animals loved him. As a little boy visiting a children’s farm, he walked away after petting a cow, only for the cow to follow him down the fence while all the other children followed behind. At home, he shared a special bond with the family dog, Haley. She would race after Sean as he rode his bike along the walking trail and always managed to catch him. Sean had a natural connection with animals that stayed with him throughout his life.

He loved traveling, long drives, exploring new places, cooking, trying restaurants, and sharing good food. He became especially interested in spices from around the world and was always searching for something new to try, usually the hotter the better. He was incredibly witty, loved to laugh, and genuinely enjoyed listening to other people tell their stories.

Sean also had a way of letting everyone know when he was sure he had the facts right. He would stand with his hands on his hips and a knowing smile, patiently reminding his family that he had been right all along. One of the family’s happiest traditions was the Father’s Day golf outing Sean shared each year with his father and Patrick. Patrick knew Sean not only as his brother, but as his closest friend. They spoke every day, explored new places, and shared countless meals, stories, and conversations. Sean was always in Patrick’s corner, and his absence leaves a part of everyday life that can never be replaced.

Sean is survived by his mother, Roxanne Leahy; his father, Pat Leahy; and his brother, Patrick Leahy, along with his aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and many friends.

Sean’s family was proud of his remarkable mind and his many talents, but most of all, they were proud of the person he was. He was a loving son, a devoted brother, a loyal friend, and a beautiful mind and spirit. Knowing him was a privilege. He was deeply loved, and he will be missed every day.

A memorial gathering celebrating Sean’s life will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapels, 450 W. Lake Street, Roselle, Illinois 60172.

He will live forever in our hearts.
