Steven C. Perkey, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, departed this world on September 18, 2025, in Naperville, Illinois, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him. Born on April 29, 1951, in DuQuoin, Illinois, Steven embraced life with an infectious spirit that transformed every gathering into a celebration.
For over four decades, Steven dedicated his career to the Illinois Central Railroad and METRA as a locomotive engineer, where he commanded not just trains but also the admiration of all who worked alongside him. His work was not merely a job; it was a craft he honed with passion and pride, echoing through the lengths of track he traversed and the lives he touched.
Beyond the rails, Steven was truly the life of the party. He possessed a great sense of humor and could light up any room simply by entering it. Friends and family would gather, drawn to his laughter and warmth, never missing an opportunity to share stories and make memories that would endure beyond his time on this earth. Making friends seemed effortless for Steven, and he understood the beauty of connection well; each relationship he built was cherished deeply.
A proud Marine Corps veteran, Steven embodied the values of honor and service, carrying them through every facet of his life. He exemplified dedication not only to his country but to his community and family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Pam Perkey, who stood by his side through thick and thin, embodying an unyielding partnership that inspired those around them.
Steven was also the proud father of five daughters: Stacy (Gabriel Saenz) Grabowski, Lacy (Tom) Podgers, Amanda (Aaron) Dobush, Shanna (Lance) Rod, and Brittany (Ross) Lindberg. His legacy continues through his eight beloved grandchildren: Aiden Miller, Kaylee Podgers, Amelia Podgers, Chase Rod, Lucas Dobush, Mason Rod, Lily Lindberg, and Madelyn Dobush, each of whom carry his spirit in their laughter and joy.
Steven is also survived by his siblings, Dennis (Sharon) Perkey, Betty Perkey, and Mark (Barb) Perkey, alongside many nieces and nephews who will remember him as a guiding light in their lives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Erma Perkey, and his brothers Howard, Richard, Ron, and Larry Perkey, who surely welcomed him with open arms.
As we gather to honor the life of Steven C. Perkey, we remember a man whose impact is felt in every cherished moment, every laugh shared, and every friendship forged.
