Stewart G. Hamilton

Stewart Hamilton (80) of Bloomingdale, IL passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on
February 5, 2022. Stew was born on September 3, 1941 in Chicago to Maxwell and Adeline
Hamilton and raised in Tinley Park. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with both a
Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Education. Stew taught science to middle schoolers at
Westchester Middle School (formerly Nixon School) for 38 years. He spent his summers
managing Hobson pool, sailing his boat, cycling on the open road and enjoying family vacations.
Stew had a steady faith in the Lord and shared it by teaching Sunday School to middle
schoolers.
Stew married Carol Townsend in 1963 where they raised their three children, Mark, Susan and
Pam, in Woodridge. Carol passed away in 1984. God’s plan for Stewart brought Leigh Thomas
and her daughter Lindsay into his life. Stew married Leigh in 1988, which marked the
beginning of his beautiful, blended, and loving family. Stewart was the love of Leigh’s life for 33
years.
After Stew retired from teaching, the family moved to Lombard where Stew, who loved working
with students, drove a school bus for 16 years.
Stew loved animals and had a special place in his heart for dogs. He generously served as a
volunteer at the West Suburban Humane Society in Downers Grove. He also loved creating
works of art with stained glass, drawing cartoons, telling corny jokes, and conducting science
experiments with his grandchildren, or anyone who was interested. His creative, easy-going
personality combined with his kind, loving and generous spirit was endearing to all, and Stew
will be greatly missed.
Stew is survived by his loving wife Leigh, daughters Susan (Mike) Tait, Pam (Scott) Blomquist,
Lindsay (Aaron) Locke, daughter-in-law Julie Hamilton, grandchildren Joey, Max, Thomas,
Noah, Maddie, and Lucy. Uncle Walter (Margie) Hamilton, sisters-in-law Laura Peterson (Ron),
Raylene White, brother-in- law Raymond (Pat) Townsend, nieces and nephew Julie, Staci, Amy,
Peggy, Kelsey, and Christopher.
He is preceded in death by parents Maxwell and Adeline Hamilton, father-in-law William
Thomas, mother-in-law Anne Thomas, first wife Carol Hamilton and son Mark Hamilton.
