a beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend whose presence will be deeply missed
Susan M. Hayes, lovingly known as Sue, passed away on October 11, 2026, at the age of 78. She was born on May 28, 1948, in Oak Park, and throughout her life she remained, above all, a beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
Sue is survived by her beloved husband (Ed Hayes), her daughter (Julie Dittman) and son-in-law (Brian Dittman), her son (Mike Hayes) and daughter-in-law (Lynn Hayes) and her son (Scott Hayes) and daughter-in-law (Amanda Hayes). She also leaves behind a cherished circle of grandchildren: Ryan Dittman, Hayley Dittman, Will Dittman, Maddie Hayes, Grace Hayes, Ava Hayes and Ella Hayes. Through them, her family carries forward the love, connection, and memory that shaped her life and will continue to keep her close in the years ahead.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Warren and Marjorie Lambin, and by her brother, John Lambin. Their memory remained part of the story of her life, and now she is reunited with them in peace.
Susan graduated from Elmhurst College with a Bachelor's degree in Special Education and went on to get her Master's degree from St. Xavier University. She was a much-loved special education teacher for the Elmhurst School District until her retirement in 2014.
her family carries forward the love, connection, and memory that shaped her life
While she considered her Master's degree one of her highest achievements, it wasn't her greatest. Her greatest achievements were her children and grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart.
