Terrence LaPlante

Terrence (“Terry”) Edward LaPlante, of Roselle, IL, passed away on June 12, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with heart and lung issues.

Terry was born on May 23, 1947, in Chicago, IL, to Gerald LaPlante and Mary (Roberts) LaPlante. Terry was a graduate of St. Michael’s School in Chicago and the University of Illinois at Chicago. He also served in the United States Army for five years. Terry worked for Commonwealth Edison/Exelon Corp. for 37 years until his retirement in 2002, after which he attended cooking school in France, started a personal chef business, and volunteered for local charities.

Terry married his wife, Barbara (Jenca) LaPlante in 1969, and they would have celebrated 56 years of marriage this August. Terry and Barb have two daughters: Nicole (Todd) Jacobsen, and Allison (Tim Murphy) LaPlante. They are also blessed with four loving grandchildren: Abbey & Luke Jacobsen, and Finn & Declan Murphy.

Terry is also survived by his younger brother, Larry (Donna) LaPlante, and nephews Andrew (Anna) LaPlante and Brandon (Bianca) LaPlante.

Terry will be remembered for his curiosity, willingness to learn any skill, and, of course, his love of food and cooking. Throughout his lifetime, there was no project or skill Terry would not attempt to take on if it caught his interest or if he thought he could perfect it. This ranged from many forms of art, to cooking, to sewing, to home remodeling projects, and much more. Terry loved to travel and learn about the world, while also engaging in local and national political issues.

In recent years, Terry’s declining health prevented him from directly engaging in many of these activities, but his passion and humor stayed with him throughout. He will be remembered as a true “Renaissance Man” and an inspiration to those around him.

Visitation will be at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 AM, on June 19th, at St. Hubert Church, 729 Grand Canyon Street, Hoffman Estates.
