I call her as my Aunt Vering , and she is the 'Inday Manang" to her siblings, the "Tiya Bering" to her nephews and nieces and the "Bering" to her other relatives and friends in the Philippines and the "Vera" here in America. I would like to take a moment to honor her with a brief reflection and remember her as one who has walked this earth and touched my life in many ways. She was very a beautiful woman with a very beautiful heart. And while looking into her beautiful big brown eyes and those thick lashes, you will subconsciously feel safe. It was her eyes that you would noticed first. They lit up when she has a bright idea, and her eyes dances when she laughs. That's my Aunt Vering! My Aunt Vering was always there to bail out for my mom's hospital bills and medications with just a note from her boss, the City Mayor of Cebu. She was a very generous human being. I landed a casual job at the City Hall through her help. When I moved to the U.S., she made sure I was okay. Our phone talks were precious and her laughter will always remain in my memory. It saddened me that she is gone and I haven't fulfilled my promise to visit her again. It saddened me that I did not take it seriously when she asked me "When are you going to visit me again, when I am already dead?" - I am in tears because I will be visiting my Aunt Vering for the last time to pay my last respects and send her off to her last place of rest. Rest well, Aunt Vering. You may be gone but not forgotten. I will cherish all the memories I once have had with you. I LOVE YOU!
