Jerome P. Smith, 77, beloved husband, father and friend to many, passed away peacefully at home March 1 surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 15, 1938 in Chicago to the late Arthur and Amy (Draland) Smith. He was a tool and die maker and later a business owner. Raised in Chicago, he ventured to the suburbs for the first time in 1963 and lived in Glen Ellyn for several years before moving to West Chicago and, for the last two years, St. Charles. He was married 57 years to Annette (Meziere) Smith. He was an excellent 16-inch softball pitcher back in the day, a sturdy swimmer and a content, though challenged, golfer. Jerry was a hard worker and always easily made friends and made people feel comfortable. He is survived by his wife; four children, Michael (Sandra), Steven (Diane), Nancy (Mark) Gronau and Brian (Michelle); 11 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends. Visitation is 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Friday, March 4, with prayers to follow at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapels, 450 W. Lake St., Roselle. For more information, call (630) 889-1700.
