Interment:

Joseph P Genarella, 79, passed away surrounded by his children Thursday, May 16, 2024. Cherished father of Joseph P Genarella, JR (daughter-in -law Jaime Genarella) and Nicole L Genarella. Devoted grandfather of Gianna and Mia Genarella, as well as furry grandchildren Tesla, Vinny, Bella, and Chloe. Dear brother of Rosalind DePaola and Judy Greco. Sister-in-law (Judy Brennan and Donna Kawecki), uncle and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth J Genarella (sweethearts since they were teenagers), his parents Joseph and Concetta Genarella and siblings, Margaret Genarella, John Genarella and Anna Russo. He was a fighter his entire life, battling MS, cancer and overcoming many obstacles to take care of his entire family. Everyone that knew Joseph knew his bright blue eyes, his charming smile and his wit that never seemed to end. He spent many years doing what he loved best, running outdoors. This was his true sense of joy, and his family would always be there to support him in his many runs that he took part in. Joseph loved long drives (especially the many rides he took with his daughter Nicole back and forth to college), traveling, baseball games (with his wife, sister, and brother-in-law) and spending time at Bears Games with his son Joe. He lived for football season and having these moments tailgating and enjoying time with his son. He loved sitting outside and enjoying a cigar with family and friends and talking about world events, politics, or the latest movie that he just saw. His smile, and uncanny way of always
making new friends and having everyone feel included will be missed by all that were lucky to have him in their life.

You will be missed my sweet friend Joseph. I have enjoyed working with you over the past 10+ years at Mutual of Omaha. Your smile and courage as you plowed through life's challenges have been an inspiration to me! I have missed visiting with you since we stopped going into the office. We enjoyed many conversations about God and shared our beliefs, often discussing why bad things happened to good people. I pray you are getting the answer to all those tough questions, and many others, now that you are with God. May your family have peace and joy in knowing you can be reunited with your lovely wife and sweetheart. R.I.P. Joseph!

We are heartbroken that Uncle Joe is no longer with us. I have lost my “Duke of Earl”. Having grown up with him living downstairs with Grandma, he was always part of my life. He was a joy, a kind hearted uncle and always there for me (and Randy) as we grew older. I will cherish my memories of him and will hold you all in our thoughts.

I will never forget what I learned from Joseph. From Day One of my time at Mutual of Omaha, Joseph welcomed me and taught me so much. I loved talking to him about our favorite War Movies, as well as sports. He was very astute on our financial planning business, and I know how proud he was of his children and grandchildren. "Ol' Blue Eyes" will be sorely missed by all his friends and colleagues at Mutual of Omaha.

Sorry about the passing of Joe. He was our insurance agent for my wife, Christina and me. He was always caring and kind and looking out for our concerns. It will be hard to replace him. God Bless him and his entire family. Anthony and Christina Lucchese and children Jennifer and Lisa Lucchese. Palatine Il.

Uncle Joey, Rest in peace and know that you are loved by so many. I’ll never forget when you came to my house and I put on the Song “YMCA” and you began to dance! You were about to get on the chair, but auntie Corky stopped you from doing so! The time I spent with you either talking about our favorite movie, “The Godfather” or politics and religion are fine memories! Until we meet again, rest in peace. Much Love
