With his family by his side on Saturday, September 8th, 2018, Joseph Paul Zampa, loving husband and father of two, passed away at the age of 53. Joseph was born on April 13th, 1965 in Oak Park Illinois to Richard and Joan (Calcagno) Zampa. Joe was an outstanding football player at Lake Park High School and continued his athletic career and received his Bachelors Degree from Truman State (Northeast Missouri State). There is where he met and fell in love with Kristina Kapfer, whom he married in 1988. They have raised two beautiful daughters, Mallory and Rachel and are the loving dog-parents to Mimzy and Stella. Joe had a passion and zeal for life. To know Joe is to love Joe. His larger than life personality created many life long friendships and priceless memories. Whether it was at the lake house in Wisconsin (Joe’s happy place), on a boat or at the house in Florida, coaching or watching his daughters’ soccer games, or just simply hanging around, Joe’s presence was felt. He loved his family more than anything. His wife, Kristina, was his best friend and his daughters Mallory and Rachel are his pride and joy. Joe and Kristina tackled every obstacle life through at them with a laugh and a smile. They worked hard to make sure that their daughters could play every travel sport their hearts desired, go to the school of their choosing, and follow their dreams. Joe made sure to instill in them a dedication of hard work and to ensure they knew they were not entitled to respect, but that they must earn it. His love for living life to the fullest was passed down to his daughters, rubbed off onto his wife, and spread throughout his family and friends. Raising two daughters also brought two loving young men into his life. Mallory’s finance Eric Skwiat and Rachel’s boyfriend Brendan Schmitz are the son’s he never had. He had tremendous pride in those two young men and is resting easy knowing his daughters will always be taken care of. And if not, there are countless family and friends that will certainly take care of business (and them). Joe maintained a strong faith throughout his journey and continuously supported his parish. Papa Z was always a go big kind of guy. One of his best qualities was his ability to see the good in all. Joe will always be remembered for his generosity, quick wit, infectious smile, fist pumping dance moves, and his kind and compassionate spirit. We will always carry Joe’s spirit in our hearts and be reminded to “Pace Ourselves” as we continue to live his effervescent legacy. He was the Beloved husband of Kristina nee: Kapfer; Devoted of Mallory (Eric Skwiat) and Rachel Zampa; Loving son of Richard and Joan Zampa; Dear brother of Mary Jo, Nancy (Blane) Farrell and Richard (Cathy) Zampa.

Although it has been since our first year out of high school since I spoke to Joe he has always had a special place in my heart. Much time has passed but he has certainly not been forgotten and nor will he. Joe was a person who touched your life forever. He was such a kind friend and my life has been blessed to have known him. May God give you peace today in knowing that Joe is at home with his Father in Heaven.

I worked with Joe at Peacock Engineering from 1998 - 2007. I will always remember Joe as a vibrant man who loved life and all those who worked with him. He was a tireless, ever-motivated and devoted man who always took the time to pass along an encouraging word and say "Thank You" to anyone who helped him, as Joe was responsible for our biggest clients. Joe was very highly regarded at Peacock and he was a tremendous asset to our company. I know that death is never easy to accept and when it, so seemingly unfair, takes away such a young and wonderful man as Joe, it adds to the grief. I do, however, take comfort in knowing that Joe is no longer in pain, no longer on meds and no longer fighting. I can, easily, see him looking down at his family - a family he loved so very much and a family that he was so proud of. He'll continue to watch upon his family as they continue to grow and be part of their own individual families. Joe will be watching with great pride knowing that he will, forever, be in our hearts.” In Sympathy, Mike Wallach Travelers Rest, SC

Kris, Mallory and Rachel... My heart aches for all of you. I know what Joe meant to all of you. He was the center of your world. I am beyond saddened to learn of his fight the last couple of years with cancer. I was fortunate to spend many hours along side him for almost 7 to 8 years on the soccer fields and on tournament weekends. Please know, it was a privilege for me to be a small part of Joe's life and yours as well. Joe would always keep me in check with Alex and I would in turn would do the same for him when our competitive spirits went a bit too far. I always felt we complemented each other very well and there was a reason were supposed to be on the field together coaching the girls. I have many fond memories from those days and they really don't seem so long ago. Mallory, your dad would often talk about you on the side lines during Rachel's practice. He would tell me your work ethic was better than anyone and you were tough as nails. I could see the joy in his face... he was a very proud dad. Rachel, your dad knew you were tough, too, but he also spoke of how big your heart was. I can remember many times on the sidelines your dad's face would be bright as the sun, not because you played awesome or scored a goal or two, but because the way you handled yourself. Kris... no I can't leave you out of this either. I want to thank you for the many years of allowing Joe to coach with me. They are some of the best memories. I know Joe was the rock in your family, it was obvious. His world revolved around you, Rachel and Mallory. I know thru many conversations you three are what was most important to him in life. If there is one thing I learned from having many conversations with Joe on the sidelines or over a few beers/drinks/dinner, he always put his family first and made sure he made time for family. No matter how busy he may have been, family to him was his most prized possession. I saw it all the time. Thank you again for allowing me to be part of your family. I will miss him very much and think of him often. With Love, Brian

About my friend. I worked with Joe for almost 17 years. What great fun, always a pro. He never asked anything of anyone. He was good at what he did, it was fun to him. hard work, yes, but he love it. Every once in awhile someone crosses your path. And they touch you in some way. That was Joe, you may never see them again, but they are always in that little corner of your heart. You are in my heart every Thanksgiving! Greatest Gravy ever Joe. Love you Babette

Kris and family, Tony Kaska told me of Joe's passing. I am so sorry. I have such fond memories of Joe from our pledge class and Sig Taus. Joe had such a kind and loving soul and a smile that could light up the room and make you forget your troubles. From everything I have heard since I last saw you all he was very blessed in his life with love and happiness. May the memories of Joey fill your hearts and the love he had for you all help you through your sorrow. Kevin (Grandpa) Richards
