Joseph Russo, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2024, at the age of 82. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends. Born on July 26, 1941, in Chicago, Joseph was the eldest son of John and Antoinette Russo. He is preceded in death by both his parents, and his younger brother Anthony. He grew up in a tight-knit Italian-American family, where he learned the values of hard work, integrity, and loyalty. Joe went on to build a successful career in music in the late 1950s and 1960s. His band, The Millionaires, played on Jim Lounsbury’s Bandstand Matinee, and played with the likes of Frankie Ford and Frankie Avalon. Another one of Joe’s great hobbies lay in being outdoors; Joe was an avid trap shooter and fisherman. Joseph’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 63 years, Janet, and a loving father to his three children, John (Genea), Jina (Michael), and Joey (Anessa). He cherished every moment spent with his seven grandchildren, Deanna (Chris), Johnny (Beth), Jinele (Brandon), Frankie (Alana), Joey, Isabella, and Talia; and his eight great-grandchildren, Mianna, Jaxson, Blake, Jadyn, Easton, Everly, Livia, and Dominic. His family brought endless laughter and happiness into his life. In addition to his family, Joseph will be dearly missed by his many friends, colleagues, and neighbors, who were inspired by his wisdom and zest for life. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his bold spirit will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched. A wake and funeral service will be held on April 11th and 12th, 2024, respectively, both at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapel in Roselle. Joseph Russo will be remembered as a shining example of strength, love, and generosity. May he rest in peace knowing that his legacy will endure for generations to come.

Joe, it was a pleasure shooting alongside you over the years at Maywood and Northbrook. I miss those days with you. My sincerest condolences to your family and friends. I'll catch up with you at the trap field in the sky. -John-

We moved in our home 25 years ago and it only took a matter of days before we met the Russo’s right next door. In the years that followed, Janet and Joe have been right by our side- literally. He was always jumping in to help with whatever project we were working on, keeping a watchful eye over our kids as they used their unlimited pool pass or inviting us to feast on whatever amazing thing Janet had made. We will all miss Joe more than words can say. I will miss seeing him on the swing. I will miss him asking the kids if they got taller even though he saw them the day before, I will miss him shouting “Jules!” over the fence. I will even miss him making fun of my cooking. Joe stood for family always, we feel honored that Janet and Joe made us a part of theirs. Rest in Peace, our dear friend Pa Joe.

One day long ago, one little girl said to another “do you wanna be friends?” the other said “sure” and so it began a life long bond. Known to be “Denise and Jina.” On this day, I not only gained my best friend, I gained another entire family. Yesterday, we lost Jina’s dad Joe. A father figure in my world where one was absent. I can still hear him saying “the Boda u’s are up to no good!” He was always spot on. As we grew up and were raising our own kids, he was always there. To help when we had all 5 of them in the car and ran out of gas (Tes being just weeks old), or tree in my yard needed to be cut down and my son needed some guidance he would just show up, Pa Joe was a grandfather to my daughter when she didn’t have one here or even to defend me at a stop sign when I “pissed” someone off and he told them “well it’s better to be pissed off than pissed on!” He was there. The laughter we had for years with him being him or him getting in trouble for doing something he wasn’t supposed to, will forever be remembered and laughed about. Oh my the countless stories. What stands out most is his unwavering love and protection for his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his life long love Jan. Myself and my children we blessed to have been included in this circle for years. My heart is broken a little more today after losing my absent dad last year. Joe you will go on in my heart always. I Love you
