Maria Gatziolis, née Panos, born on June 8, 1930, in Oakland, California, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2024.

Maria was the beloved wife of the late John T. Gatziolis, with whom she shared over 55 years of marriage. They were married on June 9, 1951, and together they raised their family in River Forest before moving to Bloomingdale. They also cherished many happy memories in Clearwater, Florida.

Maria was a devoted mother to Thomas, Louis (Tricia), John (Marilyn), and Alexander (Geriann). She was a dear grandmother to Chloe Hussey (Adam), Johnny (Delaney Socha), Jake (Angela Liao), Joey, Katrina, Alex, Chris (Megan), and Lauren. She was also a fond great-grandmother to Finley Louis Hussey and a baby boy expected by Chris and Megan in October.

Maria was a wonderful sister-in-law, cousin, and aunt. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Katherine Panos.

We will always remember Maria for her dedication to keeping Greek holiday traditions alive, for always acknowledging important milestones, and for being the family historian who shared her past with our future. Most of all, we will never forget her positive attitude and loving personality.

Maria was a very generous and caring woman. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of one’s choice are appreciated.
