The life of Alfonso Fajardo Jr. began on June 20, 1948, in the Philippines. He touched the hearts of many throughout his lifetime. Alfonso was more than just a name; he was a loving husband, a devoted father, a proud grandfather, caring brother, kindhearted uncle, and a dear friend to countless individuals.

Born to Expectacion Fajardo and Alfonso Fajardo Sr., he carried forward a legacy of love and compassion. For nearly five decades, he shared a deep and enduring bond with his beloved wife, Salve. Together, they raised four sons: Alex (Marivic), Alvin, Albert (Michelle), and Aljohn (May), who in turn blessed him with six beautiful grandchildren. Almira, Alfred, Lucas, Alexis, Al Sebastian, and Alana were the apples of his eye, and his love for them knew no bounds.

In addition to his immediate family, Alfonso had three brothers, the late Juventino (Adelina), Johnny (Cielo), and Celso (Salve), and three sisters, Fatima (Jhun), Nimfa (Jeckster), and Lilybeth (the late Darrell). Their shared experiences, joys, and sorrows created a tight-knit family circle, and his many nieces and nephews were further testament to the love he shared with his extended family.

Alfonso’s thirst for knowledge led him to earn a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, with a focus on Agronomy and Animal Husbandry. Throughout his life, he embodied the spirit of service. As a municipal counselor in the Philippines, he dedicated himself to his community, even during times of crisis, such as the Mayon Volcano eruption in 1968 when he distributed masks to those in need. His altruism knew no bounds.

He possessed a passion for resolving challenges and inventing innovative solutions. His contributions extended beyond borders as he spent over two decades working at the Village of Glendale Heights’ Water Treatment Plant. In his 50s, he achieved the remarkable feat of winning the Outstanding Employee award for the treatment plant, not just within Chicago but across the entire state of Illinois. He also served as President of Glendale Heights Lions Barangay, where he dedicated his time and energy to the betterment of his community.

Outside of his civic and volunteer work, Alfonso found solace and joy in two cherished pastimes. He had a passion for fishing, where he could connect with nature and enjoy the peaceful solitude of the outdoors. Additionally, he reveled in the company of his family, bonding over games of mahjong, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and camaraderie.

His faith was the cornerstone of his life. Born and raised Catholic, he faithfully attended church every Sunday, instilling strong religious values in his family. Alfonso’s kindness, friendliness, and willingness to lend a helping hand were rooted in his deep-seated beliefs.

Alfonso Fajardo Jr. was a man who touched the lives of many. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. As we bid our final farewell, let us remember his unwavering love, his dedication to others, and his indomitable spirit. He was a man cherished, and he will be dearly missed. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
