I had the pleasure of knowing Alice for many years and Dan as well. He was a member of Local 150 and I work there. She was such a kind sweet soul. Many hours spent talking, sharing and getting to know each other. She loved her family so much, proud of her kids and grandkids and of course Dan. I am sorry to Rita and family for such a great loss. It has been my privilege to know Alice.

Who knew that nearly 27 years ago when a small little girl, standing on the edge of her driveway waved and said "HIiiiiiiiiiiii, neighbor!" to the man and woman working in their yard across the street when we were moving in that we would be sharing years of poker (played for veggies from the garden and taught by Papa Dan), the sharing of homemade lye soap and recipes of cucumber salad and strawberry rhubarb (courtesy of Grandma Alice), and so many confidences and laughs all these years. Our kids got an honorary extra set of "grandparents". It was always a comfort for our entire family to see her light on in the kitchen in the morning or light in the front room on in the evening-- we knew she was ok and all was well. We loved her love of gardening (we learned so much!), her knowledge of the area-- especially our house!, And her stories of her shenanigans she and her sister Marion would get to being one of the few teenagers at the time to have their own car. It's hard to look across the street and know our beloved neighbor and friend is no longer there. She always looked out for us and reported any suspicious goings on or if we forgot to turn a light off in our basement or forgot to close our garage door. Rest in peace, Mrs. W, Grandma Alice. Our world is a little less bright without you here but we do know that you were ok with your homegoing-- as you always said, "I lived a good life. I'm satisfied." I have no doubt that Papa Dan & Marion were just chomping on the bit to greet you. We miss you terribly and life here will never be the same. May God grant Rita, Steve, Dale & Kenny, and all who are grieving, peace, comfort, and strength.
