Beloved wife, mother, aunt and friend, Jacqueline Mitchell (née Spain), age 73, passed away on April 27th at her home in Bloomingdale, Illinois, following a long illness. She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Howard, and cherished children Pamela Mitchell and Taylor Mitchell. Jacki was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Dorothy Spain, her brother Jim (survived by Cathy) Spain and her sister Judy (survived by Tom) Zimmie. She will be truly missed by nieces, nephews, family members and life-long friends, all of whom she loved so dearly.

Born in Troy, NY, Jacki graduated from Troy High School in 1966 where, as treasurer for her Junior class, she started dating her future husband, Howard. She graduated from Albany Business College and worked in several jobs including Executive Secretary at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy.

She was an active volunteer in many capacities while her daughters attended elementary school in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. She most enjoyed teaching the students about classic works of art.

Jacki was an insatiable novel reader and loved personally writing to family, friends and even strangers in senior centers just to let them know that someone cared about them. She was known by many as the “sticker lady” for decorating every letter with many loving, humorous and colorful stickers appropriate to her notes.

She will be deeply missed, but the love and care that she gave to others will remain her living legacy as it is passed on by all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her honor are welcomed.

My deepest sympathy to Howard & the girls! Jacki was truly one of the kindest, sweetest women I've ever met. She never complained; just took everything in stride. She loved her family so much; and they loved her. What greater gift is that than to love & be loved!! I know the precious memories of Jacki will give her family peace & comfort for their lifetimes. She was a very good & caring woman...with a great sense of humor...and will be missed by the Simaks! So very sorry for your loss!
