Janet Theresa Franklin

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janet Franklin, a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She peacefully departed this world on November 26, 2023 at the age of 74.

Born on March 21, 1949, Janet lived a life marked by love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was a beacon of strength and compassion, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She grew up in Keeneyville, IL where her mother and father raised her and her siblings: Harry (Diana), Kathrine (James), Douglas (Julie), Judith (Zygmunt).

As a mother, Janet was a source of guidance and unconditional love. Her legacy lives on through her children: Troy and Rene (James). She leaves behind cherished memories, lessons, and a legacy of love that will forever resonate in their hearts.

Family was at the core of Janet’s being. She was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Leola, her brother Harry, her sister Kathrine. She reveled in the joy of being a grandmother to Noeah, Autum, Lylah, Jaxon, Indigo, and Amara, finding immense happiness in their laughter and milestones. She watched her nieces and nephews grow up and had an affinity to children. She had a natural talent of consoling any crying baby. Her nurturing spirit will continue to inspire generations to come.

Janet was known for her strong work ethic. She worked serving others her entire life and had various roles in different nursing communities including Marklund Children’s Home, Norwood Park Home, and St. Mary of Providence. She had a passion for cooking and beautiful cullinary display. She worked as a director of dining for over 35 years. She was diagnosed with vascular dementia with lewy bodies. Despite her loss of memory and executive function, she was a servant until she could no longer walk. She supervised all meals at the memory care community in which she lived and wouldn’t sit to eat her own meal until everyone was served and had a napkin. She brought joy to those around her and created lasting connections within her community.

Friends and acquaintances were drawn to Janet’s genuine warmth and generosity. Her ability to create meaningful connections touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Some knew her as a roadtrip partner, a dog-sitter, and a friend who became family.

As we say our goodbyes, let us carry forward the love, strength, and resilience Janet exemplified. May Janet’s soul rest in eternal peace, and may the memories of her love provide comfort to all who grieve her passing.
