Jerry Bertrand, Army Veteran, age 76, of West Chicago, IL, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at home peacefully with his family by his side. Jerry grew up in Marinette, WI, and moved to IL where he started his family. He is preceded in death by his dear wife, Linda. He was a devoted father to Mandy (Pat) Mercadante and Adam (Carla) Bertrand. Son of the late Walter and Opal Bertrand. Loving grandfather to Joey and Olivia Mercadante, and Melanie and Joshua Bertrand. Dear brother to Frances Klitzke, Sharon Boivin, Judy Bertrand, Glenda Walters, and the late James, Robert, Richard, William, Evelyn, Wayne, Donna Mae, and Steven Bertrand.

Jerry was a true American Hero serving in the Army and earning a Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Medal, Bronze Star Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. Jerry was a man of many trades, including being a personal chef to the Blackhawks in the 70’s, to rehabbing homes with his Home Inspection/Construction business throughout the community, to name a few of his talents. The only thing to top his talented career is his generosity to the community, spending years of service with the Bloomingdale VFW, supporting his fellow veterans, and Bloomingdale Lion’s club that he served on for many years. He enjoyed his annual hunting trips every November in his home away from home log cabin that he built with his dear best friend Norm. Jerry was a die hard Green Bay Packer fan, and loved to tell everyone in Chicago what a fan he was, and trying to convert Bears fans.

Jerry had a heart of gold, and would do/or give anyone whatever they needed. Jerry faced many challenges in his life with his health, but his love for life, his humor, stubborn and tough demeanor carried him through til his last breath.

We were saddened to hear of Jerry‘s passing, and send our deepest sympathies to the family. Jerry and Linda moved in directly across the street from us a handful of years ago. We enjoyed many conversations on the driveway or in their family room. We moved to Wisconsin last year; near the time that Linda passed. We were very sad to not be able to share our condolences. We keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.

Jerry and Linda will be missed. Meeting Jerry thru our business we were immediately drawn to each other . We worked together on many remodeling projects over the many years. I felt privileged to work him on those projects and honored to work on Linda and Jerry’s homes in Bloomingdale and West Chicago and go on to work with his family and many friends that he referred us to. Although he was humble and did not like to speak of War, His service to our country never stoped. “All Gave Some, and Some Gave All “ !! Jerry gave All. My deepest sympathies to his family, and all of the people who knew and loved him. He will always be remembered. Rest in Pease my friend. With all my respect and admeration, Roy Amatore

I was blessed to meet Jerry and Linda back in 2007 when my BFF Sharyn Murphy introduced me to them. I immediately had new friends. What a fun couple and a beautiful family. You never knew what was going to come out of Jerry’s mouth…..He was so fun to be around. They both were. I’ll miss my visits with Jerry as he fought his illness. I too am a PACKER FAN and we shared cheers and tears watching them over the years, also our texting through every game.. I’ll wear my Packer shirt that Jerry gave me for Christmas and think of him always. God Bless his beautiful family and give them strength through this difficult time. Love and God’s Blessings to them always.
