John E. Huestis. Beloved husband of Sharon. Devoted father of Jenifer (Jeremy) Boss. Loving son of the late Raymond and Bernice (nee Matthias) Huestis. Dear sister of Bernice, Patty Ann, the late Raymond and the late Robert. Dear uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Early in life, John met a mentor and friend, Rudy, who introduced him to the world through travel and helped John form a special bond with the state of Texas and, specifically, the small town of Fredericksburg.
John met his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Sharon in 1971. They loved to go to concerts, theater performances, and hot spots for window shopping. Excited to start their lives together, the two were married in Chicago in 1979.

John and Sharon were surprised, but happy, to start a family of their own, and his daughter, Jenifer, meant the world to him. He never failed to create games during long road trips to teach her problem solving skills or find fun places for her to play.

John loved the natural world, large and small. He was often found staring at the birds that he fed religiously in the backyard or watching critters in the meadow outside the front windows. During evening walks, we often got delayed because he’d find interesting insects or plants to photograph.

John was dedicated to growing in his career, moving from a repair man to a licensed engineer. He took great pride in his work, dedicating many nights and weekend days to leading major install projects and keeping detailed records to make sure that his plant operated smoothly.

He had a soft spot for furry friends, treating each and every one like the valuable family member they were. Missy, Lily, and Zena will miss him dearly.

John was quick to make friends, talking to anyone and everyone. But he was fiercely loyal toward those he loved and respected. He loved to laugh and did so heartily with friends and family while camping, traveling, or eating good food.

John will always be remembered for his gregarious spirit and big laugh. We’ll always imagine hearing him say “Mercy!” one more time. We will miss John every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
