John Jones, also known as “JJ,” had a common name and a unique personality. John loved Marilynn, his wife of 35 years, and enjoyed riding his Harley, and any victory the Bears had. Sadly, John, age 70, was hit and killed on Saturday, June 17, 2023 while riding his motorcycle. A son of Chicago’s Southside, John was a late-in-life blessing for his parents, Ralph and Lucy Jones. He was the youngest of six siblings. A moustached John married Marilynn in 1988 (John’s facial hair came and went, eventually earning him the endearing nickname of “Uncle Fuzzy”, given to him by his great niece and nephew). In the years that passed, Marilynn and John traveled to many beautiful places, shared the rush of Las Vegas and celebrated milestones with family, all while living with mutual love and admiration. John’s career path eventually led him to TRO Mfg., where he retired in 2015. John showed his love of humanity by volunteering at a shelter for the homeless and with many charity motorcycle rides. For the past six years, John worked as a special education school bus driver for Hopewell. He took his role seriously, ensuring not only the students’ safety, but also by seeing and hearing them as who they are. John is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Ralph and his wife Diane, and Bill and his wife Pauline. Besides his wife Marilynn, John leaves behind his sister Kathy and her husband Mark, brother Richard and his wife Shirley, his brother Bob, his sisters-in-law Barbara Carto and her husband Tom, Carol Herley and her partner Bob Johnson and Sandy Haen, and many nieces and nephews. Also, leaving behind many friends and fellow riders, who know that no ride is too long if you have good company. A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023 from 3-7 pm at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapel, 450 W. Lake Street in Roselle. A service honoring John’s life will begin at 5 pm.

Ms. Marilynn, I want to express my deepest condolences, John Jones was a great person with a calm and kind energy, a great example of how to behave not only with students with different abilities but with everyone; he was always in a good mood and also always had a kind word for everyone. he will truly be missed by many of us drivers in hopewell, days will never be the same without him.

Offering our condolences to the Jones Family and to anyone that knew JJ. We were deeply saddened to hear of JJs passing. We were both happy to have known JJ and to have opportunities to ride in great company. May JJ be at peace and may you all find comfort during this difficult time. With deepest sympathy, Michael and Karrie Papp
