Madeline Chimienti

Madeline was born on June 2, 1937 in Chicago to Sam and Josephine Caruso and was the youngest of 5 children. She attended Proviso East High School in Maywood and enjoyed singing, playing piano and being part of her friendship club. Madeline married the love of her life John on May 10, 1960 in Heidelberg, Germany. John was in the Army and was stationed in Germany. After he was discharged in 1965, they moved to Melrose Park and started a family. Madeline was very involved when it came to her children. She was PTA president at Campanelli Elementary School in Schaumburg and then moved onto a career as school and parish secretary at St. Walter School/Parish in Roselle. She was there over 20 years before she retired to spend more time at home with her family. Even as life took its toll on Madeline’s sight, she remained a dedicated Cubs and Bulls fan. She spent many hours listening to the TV as Anthony Rizzo hit another home run or the Bulls racked up another win. We still remember Madeline walking up the stairs to the nosebleed section of the old Chicago Stadium to watch Jordan play back in the 80’s and 90’s or sitting in the seats behind the dugout to watch Santo make a great play at 3rd base. While not watching sports, Madeline enjoyed doing craft projects and knitting. Her blankets and homemade ornaments were amazing….many are still in use today! She also loved playing with her Kindle. Because of her limited eyesight, she had difficulty playing her games but never had a problem calling her kids at all hours for help to fix a problem because she “accidentally” hit a wrong button. Hopefully Heaven has a good Wi-Fi connection so she can once again enjoy her games. But as the years went by, her greatest love, besides her “perfect children” (as she called them) and her husband were her 5 grandchildren. Spoiling them became her new favorite sport, which she excelled at. Madeline was married for 59 years to John who passed away in October 2019. She is survived by her 3 sons John (Dawn) Chimienti, Jeff (Denise) Chimienti and Jim (Angie) Chimienti and 5 grandchildren Nicole, Christopher, Ryan, Emily, and Alissa. She was preceded in death by her parents Sam and Josephine Caruso, brothers Charles, Sam and Joseph and sister Marion. Madeline will be remembered for her loving and caring attitude towards others and the ability to always make the best out of any situation. She will also be remembered for her love of the color pink. The world will miss Madeline, but Heaven will rejoice in her presence!

Aunt Madeline was always my "young" aunt. She was my father’s youngest sibling and only 14 years old when I was born. I always loved being around her both as a child and an adult. Her family meant everything to her, and you could see that love whenever she was with Uncle John, her boys and their families. I feel so fortunate to have been her niece. My Aunt Madeline was a very special lady, and I will miss her beautiful smile and joyful laugh.
