Marcelino came to Chicago from the Philippines in 1956 to study at the University of Chicago, receiving his master’s degree in Educational Psychology. He began work with the YMCA, helping to spearhead programs to identify and counsel Chicago inner-city youth and re-enroll them in formal education or other suitable training programs. Marcelino rose to become the Dean of Community Development for the Central YMCA College before being appointed as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Government Affairs for the Central Colleges of Chicago. In addition to his work in education, he also served as a board member on Housing and Urban Development programs and executive director for the Department of Health and Human Services welfare reform programs.
Marcelino was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather with a wonderful sense of humor. He was creative and loved painting, sculpturing, woodworking, sewing, and cooking. He loved sports and music, but above all, he loved being with his family the most.
