Marcelino Satorre Crudo; Beloved husband of Purificacion Crudo; Devoted father of Susan (the late Edward) Medina, Jeffrey (Diana) Crudo, Mark (Diana) Crudo and Eric (Antonette) Crudo; Dear brother of Adoracion (nee: Crudo) Ignacio; Loving grandfather of Jeanne (Lap) Le, Brian (Chelsea) Medina, Gabrielle and Jessica Crudo, Lauren Crudo, Jamie and Kendall Crudo, great grandfather of Edo Le, Benjamin and Chloe Medina.

Marcelino came to Chicago from the Philippines in 1956 to study at the University of Chicago, receiving his master’s degree in Educational Psychology. He began work with the YMCA, helping to spearhead programs to identify and counsel Chicago inner-city youth and re-enroll them in formal education or other suitable training programs. Marcelino rose to become the Dean of Community Development for the Central YMCA College before being appointed as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Government Affairs for the Central Colleges of Chicago. In addition to his work in education, he also served as a board member on Housing and Urban Development programs and executive director for the Department of Health and Human Services welfare reform programs.

Marcelino was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather with a wonderful sense of humor. He was creative and loved painting, sculpturing, woodworking, sewing, and cooking. He loved sports and music, but above all, he loved being with his family the most.

Sue, I have memories of your father when I used to visit your home during college days. He had several paintings in the basement and ongoing art projects. I did not know exactly what he did then but I knew he was active in student affairs. I was most proud when I learned that he went home to Manila to receive the TOYM award (The Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines), a prestigious award given to Filipinos from all over the world who made a great contribution to their communities. I am truly sorry for your loss Sue, Jeff, Mark and Eric.

Dearest Dad and Lolo, Our hearts are heavy in sorrow that we no longer get to spend time laughing with you, sharing meals, enjoying conversations, or being able to give you a big hug. But our sorrow is met with great happiness with the thought of you resting in peace, no longer suffering, and being with all of our loved ones that have gone before you. We have been blessed to have had such a caring father and grandfather to teach and guide us. You have shaped our lives into who we are as a person and as a family. We will continue to honor your life and your countless accomplishments. We’ll miss and love you, Dad/Lolo! Love, Mark, Diana, and Lauren
