Mary LaBant passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 16, 2024 at age 99.
Mary was born July of 1924 to parents Zigmond and Anna. She grew up in Chicago with her late older sister Bernie. After Mary graduated Austin High School, she worked as a bookkeeper at a manufacturing company where she met Lewis. Mary and Lewis were married July 9, 1949 in St. Louis while visiting Lewis’ brother Vic and his wife Agnes. Their family home remained in the Portage Park area of NW Chicago until 1974 when she and Lew moved to Antioch, IL. After Lew passed away, Mary moved to Bloomingdale to live with her family. Mary was a resident of Bloomingdale for 23 years until her passing.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Lewis of 48 years and her sister Bernie and brother-in-law Jerry. Mary is survived by her son Kerry, her daughter-in-law Julie, her only grandchild Lindsey and Tucker the family dog who was her buddy and protector. He made sure to give Mary a kiss at bedtime every night.
In her retirement, Mary loved to travel on tours. Bingo at the senior center with her many friends was a passion. She also enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Mary will be remembered by her family and many friends for her positive attitude, her warmth, her nurturing heart, her smile and her many friendships.
Rest in peace. We love you. We miss you.
