Paul, We had so much fun together through the years. I will always treasure my memories with you. Cubs games as kids-Flyers games with our kids Baking cookies in Elmwood Park-baking pizzas in Bloomingdale Opening hydrants on a hot summer day! Working out in the Giannini garage gym Watching the first Muppet movie in the theater-watching movies at your home in Carol Stream Listening to Van Halen in the 80's-listening to Van Halen now You were unable to attend my wedding but came over shortly after to look at photos then purchased an 8x10, of just me and many, many more....

Paul, I'll always regret not keeping up our relationship after I moved. It hurts immensely! We were great friends. Maybe one of the reasons is because we were the only ones in the family who were crazy enough to study history at university, though you went to the better school, the University of Chicago. You breezed through school when I struggled through the exams and papers. Visiting you on the south side was an adventure, first taking me to the "stuffy" (your word) university bar, and then later to Jimmy's, the ultimate dive bar., the place you were most at ease. You were intelligent, complex, hot-headed, sophisticated, opinionated, witty, and loyal most of all. More than anything you liked the simple life, as I remember, and thus Jimmy's. You often said that one didn't need much in life, that having family, friends, food and a roof over your head was enough, as your father had said . I pressed you to go to law school, but probably you knew that maybe you'd change, that you would stray from your deep-held beliefs. I won't be going to Jimmy's anytime soon, but I will be pulling "The Brotherhood of the Grape" off the shelf. After all, we both shared our love for John Fante. No doubt, whenever there's a helicopter overhead, it will be you piloting it. And no doubt you will be watching over your daughters. You made a difference in my life, and I will always treasure the crazy times and even the not-so crazy times we had. Love you, Paul!

I never got a chance to talk to you when you switched jobs. Times like this make me realize how short and precious life is. I wish you the best in God’s paradise. We will meet again in time.
