It is with great sadness that the family of Rita Jaskowiak announce her peaceful passing on
December 24, 2022, at the age of 92.
Rita was born on January 5, 1930, to Edward and Sophia Zyniel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was
their only child and the apple of their eye.
As an adult Rita worked at various jobs, advancing from the secretarial pool to engineering assistant.
But the work she was most proud of was as Postmaster for the United States Postal Service.
In 1954, Rita married the love of her life, William (Bill) Jaskowiak in Weyerhaeuser Wisconsin. They
didn’t have any children of their own but treated each of their many nieces and nephews as if they
were their children.
Rita and Bill built their first house with their own hands and the help of family and friends in Medinah,
Illinois. They loved the outdoors and gardening, especially taking pride in their rose garden. They
enjoyed road trip adventures and running the snowmobile trails in Northern Wisconsin.
A devoted Cubs fan, even when they weren’t winning, Rita followed her team on TV. She also
enjoyed watching old black and white westerns. The louder the better. She was an avid reader whose
guilty pleasure was tawdry romance novels. And she rarely, if ever, passed up snacking on Burger
King onion rings.
Rita was very fond of her cigarettes and cocktails, especially her minty “Stingers”. She enjoyed good
conversation and had a dry, often sarcastic sense of humor. She was warm and generous. And her
soul touched our lives in the most wonderful ways, ones we will never forget.
Rita was predeceased by her loving husband Bill, and her doting parents, Ed and Sophie. She will be
fondly remembered by her in-laws, cousins, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of Rita’s life will be held on December 30, 2022, from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm, at Salerno’s
Rosedale Chapel, 450 W. Lake Street, Roselle, IL 60172.
On January 14, 2023, St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and Cemetery, N3729 1st Street,
Weyerhaeuser, Wisconsin 54895 will hold a brief visitation at 10:00 am, followed by a Funeral Mass
and interment at 11:00 am.
Donations made in lieu of flowers will be used to honor Rita’s favorite charities, specifically, Alexian
Brothers Hospital for Cancer Research and Diabetes treatments, Les Turner Foundation,

You touched my life when you were at Sunrise! Such a sweet soul with a smile on your face. You will be forever missed by myself and my co workers!
