In September of 2001, I got a call from Scott looking for employment. Now one could say this was the start of getting to know someone, who took lots of getting to know. At first impression Scott would come across as âoddâ âstrangeâ âoffâ, but what impressed me was his drive for knowing what he wanted, and taking it. My initial phone interview with him ended with him simply demanding the job âwhat is there to discuss, you need someone to work for you, I need a job â I will see you Mondayâ. Scott spent the next 16 years at A-L Equipment winning over more than a dozen people, slowly allowing each of us to know him. After 4 years of working with him, Scott came dressed as myself for Halloween. Now, Scott was still in his military dress code every day. Black Shirt, black pants, tucked into his boots, for 4 years straight. Then he walks through the door in dress pants, shirt tucked in, cell phone on his belt (yes, a belt) and a name tag âHi, my name is Michael Nelsonâ. I tell that story to friends and family still, even though it was more than 10 years ago. That was a turning point for everyone to know the humorous side of Scott, which ran deep. âWhy do they call it common sense if it is not commonâ as he loved to say. As time went on I was even able to game a little with Scott, which was a pleasure to see him out of the work environment. Then he found some girl named Tina; this was a game changer for Scott. This girl showed him love, light, compassion â and she had the patience of an angel. Scott was also very proud of Tina, as he would post her marathon times in the lunchroom for all to admire. Recently we had the pleasure of spending some time with Scott at a co-workerâs wedding. He was on the dance floor with Tina doing his thing. He was asked âhey Scott, who taught you how to dance?â âJack Danielsâ he responded with a grin. If I stated that I understood Scott after 16 years of knowing him I would be incorrect. After all the time that I got to spend with Scott being âScottâ, most people started to come across as simply boring. I will miss not knowing what Scott has in store for me when I come to work. Put simply, I will miss Scott being âScottâ. Michael & Mercedes Nelson Owner â A-L Equipment Co.

Tina, I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn about Scott's passing. Please know I hold you and Scott's family in my heart and in my prayers. He was too young to die; you're too young to be a widow. I'm crying for you xxx
