Sharon Suzanne Koopman (60) passed away unexpectantly on March 14, 2024,
suffering a massive heart attack.
Born March 25,1963 to The Late Marvin (Bud)and Dolores Koopman. Sharon grew
up in Chicago and resided in Glen Ellyn, Il for the past 24 years. She is survived by her
mother Dolores, brothers, Keith, and Mark (Debbie). Sharon derived great joy from
spending time with and spoiling her nieces and nephews: Mitchell Koopman, Danny
Koopman (Katie), Beth Rack and Lauren Koopman. She then took spoiling to a whole
new level when she became a great-aunt to Harper and Camden Koopman and Paisley
Rack. She also leaves behind numerous close cousins and her Shriner family and
friends.
Sharon held various administrative positions with Black and Veatch since 2001. While
work was a necessity, her passion was food and cooking. In 2023, she restarted her
side gig as a Pampered Chef consultant.
Sharon was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Glen Ellyn. She lived a
life of service from a young age. Sharon was a member of Jobs Daughters where she
served as Honored Queen. She was also a member of Daughters of the Nile and a
past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star. Sharon was a devoted supporter of the Medinah
Shriners’ mission to raise funds for Shriners Children’s Chicago. In 2020, she served as
First Lady when her brother Keith was Potentate. Not even Covid could dampen her
fund-raising efforts. While she was unable to host the traditional Fashion Show
fundraiser, she found a way to raise a record amount of money for the hospital that year.
At Shriner events, Sharon could typically be found with a roll of raffle tickets in hand and
ready to take your money.
Sharon had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to dance, cook, garden, and just have
fun. She gave her all to everything she did and was always willing to lend a hand.
Sharon has packed up her pampered chef supplies to go cook in her dream kitchen in
the sky. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Shriners Children’s Chicago.

My deepest condolences to the Koopman Family. Many of us here at Black & Veatch are still in dis-belief. I worked with Sharon for the last 18 years. She was a tuff cookie at times, but in the end we got the work done, correct, and on-time! Taking short cuts was not part of Sharon's work ethic. I appreciated her work ethic and her ability of getting things done efficiently. Sharon will be truly missed. Praying for peace, strength and understanding during this difficult time. Deanna Gladden

It was a pleasure working with Sharon. She trained me on a major project and was very supportive. Her training skills mixed in with her sense of humor made learning from her enjoyable. She always took the time out for anyone in need and had an answer to your questions. She will be missed by those who knew her. My prayers and thoughts are with her family and friends. May God's arms comfort you during your time of bereavement.

Sharon was the hardest worker I have ever supervised. She always wanted to do what is right for the company and also prided herself on passing on her astounding knowledge to new employees every chance she got. We will all miss her so much. It is so hard to replicate such an amazing human being across all aspects of her life.

I am so glad that I got to meet Sharon in person last year in Chicago. There are no words to express how deeply saddened I am by her very early loss. She was so smart and full of knowledge with a very gentle and kind heart. We will definitely miss her at Black & Veatch. My heart goes out to her family and mom.

I am so sad to hear of Sharon's unexpected passing. I shared many happy memories with her as members of St. Thomas United Methodist Church in Glen Ellyn before it's closing. Virtual hugs to Dolores and her family as they deal with this tremendous loss. Jacquie

Far far too young to leave our world. She was full of fun and frivolity. Always willing to lend a hand whenever or wherever was needed. I had sent her a bday card for ever. I even had it all addressed and stamped ready to mail for her March 25th birthday. She and another close friend shared same birthday. I believe with Sharon she may be gone in presence but never from heart or mind of family and friends...

My heart breaks with the news of dear Sharon's passing. My love and prayers to Dolores and the family. Sharon welcomed me into the Masonic organization from the first day I met her. Her kindness and dedication convinced me to stay. She, Dolores and I had a few great dinners out and I counted her as one of my dear friends. I will miss her dearly.

From the day Sharon interviewed for the job at Black & Veatch over 20 years ago, she became an integral part of our Chicago office. We will all miss her greatly. And to Delores and the Koopman family, please know that Barbara and I have you in our thoughts and prayers.
