Sharon Zappa (nee Doyle), age 75, of Bloomingdale, passed on peacefully to her heavenly home on
Monday, March 8, 2021 after a long illness. Her beloved soulmate and husband of 53 years, Frank, was
by her side as was her dear son, Robert. Sharon was the mother of the late John Zappa and the devoted
grandmother of Antone Zappa and Robert Zappa, Jr. Sharon was overjoyed to witness the marriage of
Rob Jr. and the sweet Sara Lawler at the end of last year.
Born in Chicago on October 10, 1945, Sharon was the eldest daughter of the late Patrick J. Doyle and
Catherine Doyle (nee Thompson). She was a dear big sister to Cecelia Norris, Emily Iland, and Barbara,
Patrick and Jean Doyle. She was a special sister-in law in the Doyle and Zappa families. She is survived by
two Aunts, Emily Eager and Virginia Moore, and was a cherished aunt, cousin, friend and mentor to
many.
Sharon had an outgoing personality and made friends easily at St. Margaret of Scotland Elementary
School and Longwood Academy on Chicago’s South Side. In 1965, she met Frank Zappa at Southern
Illinois University, Carbondale. Their marriage in August 1967 was the beginning of an incredibly strong
lifelong commitment to one another, through good times and bad.
A hard worker, Sharon started in the family business, McDade & Company, at the age of 16. Years later,
she became the giftware buyer for the company and was recognized as a woman pioneer in the discount
industry by the Association of Catalog Showroom Merchandisers.
A devout Catholic, Sharon will long be remembered by the congregation of St. Isidore Parish in
Bloomingdale for decades of service alongside Frank, particularly in Marriage Encounter, Becoming One.
She helped start a new ministry, Helping Hands, dedicated to aiding the homeless. She was recognized
as Woman of the Year for the Council of Catholic Woman for her tireless effort and dedication to people
of the parish.
She was a woman of faith, and Sharon was ready to meet Jesus on the bridge to heaven, just days after
she saw him in a vision waiting for her. Dear Sharon, you leave a huge hole in our hearts. We can only
console ourselves with fond memories of your infectious laugh, your generosity, kindness, and love, and
the wonderful time we shared.

The Memorial Mass will take place on Saturday March 13 at 10:45 am at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 427
W Army Trail Road, Bloomingdale, IL 60108. Those who cannot attend in person are invited to view
service live streamed at www.stisidoreparish.org.
Interment will be private.  A larger, social gathering to celebrate Sharon’s life will be deferred until later
in the year. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to Helping Hands Ministry c/o St.
Isidore Catholic Church.

Dear Frank and family/friends of Sharon, My sincere condolences to you. I had the privilege of getting to know Sharon this past year, and she was so positive and kind and so utterly organized! I'm sad to learn the news of her passing, but confident that she is in the loving embrace of God. You are in my thoughts. Sincerely, Amrit Singh

Sharon was a dear, dear woman who, along with her husband, Frank, mentored my marriage. I read all of the posting and I whole-heartedly agree with Sandra and Robert Hoffman who wrote, "now the Lord is laughing with her and loving her! She sure loved him!" Sharon had a wonderful spirit that will reside within me always - her delight in those around her was genuine. She made each person she encountered feel utterly important to her in that encounter. That was her special gift from God that she shared that gift with all of us. I will miss her. Frank, you and Sharon were blessed with 53 years of shared life and love. I can only imagine your feeling of loss now. May you find comfort in your memories, her essence that remains with you, and time with family and friends. Time on earth is different from time in Heaven. In my heart, I believe Sharon is already planning with our Lord an amazing Heaven's welcome for you. Wishing you God's peace. Love, Linda Shepard

All we want to say is WOW, what a Woman! We will always smile when we think of the amazing life she and Frank have shared for 53 years, and the witness of their TRUE LOVE thru thick and thin that we hold in high esteem. We have laughed and cried with them and shared faith for the last 30 years. And now the Lord is laughing with her and loving her! She sure loved Him! Love and Blessings to her precious family, Bob and Sandy Hoffman

Love and Prayers to you All! We will surely miss our Sharon's wisdom, wonderful laugh, zest for life and inspiration to us all ! She has been the Guiding light as adopted GrandMa to our Darby children over the past 25 years sharing all the big moments of life, births, birthdays, graduations, Tears, Joys, and wonderful Easter & Christmas celebrations with us. She helped teach our kids the value in Family, Community and Service. We will fondly remember her Zappa's "Filenes Basement" her storehouse of treasures.. Also, her countless hours of Service with Frank at St Isidores! Her family store of McDades, was one of the first places we shopped for home goods when we moved here to Carol Stream many years ago. Many Blessings and Hugs and prayers to Frank and the Zappa Family, during your time of sorrow. Love, ~ Bob and Darby Family

I did not know Sharon, but do know her son Rob well and it's clear to me how he became the person he is today. Rob, you are a lucky man to have had a mother that cared and loved like she did. To have parents with such a strong marriage; what a blessing. Thinking about you at this difficult time. Ilane Z.
