Dante R. Giacchetti, 64, of Elgin, Illinois passed away in the early hours of July 23rd after a short but courageous battle against esophageal cancer. A full life, though one not shy of adversity, Dante exemplified resilience and hope.

Born in October 1956 to the late Dante V. Giacchetti and Elvira (nee Paese) Giacchetti, Dante (Jr.) was the third of four children and the couples’ 1st born son. A Chicago native, Dante spent his childhood years in Northlake, moving around to nearby suburbs following the death of his parents in early adolescence. He started his high school years at West Leyden and went on to graduate from Elk Grove High School with the class of 1974. In 1978 Dante married Audrey (nee Hazelwood) Giacchetti. Married until 2012, Dante and Audrey share four children and four grandchildren together.

Dante was a proud father, respected entrepreneur, and lifelong runner committed to physical fitness. As a young dad, he started the company Dante Drywall, providing security and flexibility for his family. Never compromising on his diligent work ethic, Dante’s children recall that he attended every sporting and special event in their own lives; something that was incredibly important to him as a dad. In addition to being his own kids #1 sports fan, Dante was a dedicated fan of Chicago sports’ teams as well. Many memories of dear family and friends revolve around watching, attending, or discussing the Chicago Blackhawks, White Sox, Bears, or Bulls with him. Dante’s own physical fitness was central to his life as well. He could be seen running around town or at his local gym nearly everyday. This paved the way for many friendships to form over the years as seemingly everywhere Dante went he ran into someone he knew.

Dante enjoyed the simple pleasures in life such as music, food, family and good company. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he boasted about them at every opportunity.

Dante was loved and cherished by many and will forever be missed by all. The devoted father of Angela Giacchetti, Justine Giacchetti, Stephanie Giacchetti and the late Dante Giacchetti; Proud grandfather to Claudia Zuniga, Nathan Zuniga, Dante Stylski and Leila Stylski; Loving boyfriend of Sakhone Young; Beloved brother to Paula Sekikawa (Howard), Carolyn Giacchetti and James Giacchetti (Anita); former husband of Audrey Giacchetti; Dear uncle of many nieces and nephews; and cherished cousin to many.

Family and friends of Dante’s are invited to gather for services at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapels, 450 W Lake St, Roselle, IL 60172. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 29th from 3-9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 30th at 10:30 am. Interment St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery following service.
