Janice M. Kayson (nee Wittman), Beloved Wife of the late David H. Kayson; Devoted Mother of Robin ( Michael) Jay and Kyle (Nicole) Kayson; Loving Grammy of Cara (Richard) Kingan, Ryan (Jessica) Jay, Austin Jay and Payton Jay; Great Grammy of Oakley and Dear Sister of Joann (Harold) Collier.
Janice Kayson, 77, of Roselle, Illinois, originally from Tipton, Missouri, passed peacefully at the Florida home of her daughter, Robin, on August 16, 2021. Janice was a talented artist and educator. She graduated from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, working primarily as an elementary art school educator at Hoover Elementary School in Schaumburg, Illinois. She touched the lives of countless numbers of students, of whom she was fondly remembered. It was at Hoover that she met and married her late husband, David, the absolute love of her life.
Janice and David lived in Roselle, Illinois, and set deep roots at Willow Creek Community Church, where they were both involved as volunteers. Jan utilized her artistic skills to help create stage pieces used for weekly services. Between teaching and volunteering at the church, Jan will be remembered as a faithful friend, whose kindness and gentle manner could always be counted on. She will also be remembered as a sharp dresser, for her keen eye at design, for her unsurpassed skill at the card game Solitaire, for rarely missing the show Jeopardy, for her eagerness to craft tie dye shirts and cement elephant ears with her grandchildren, for her affection and bond with her cats Izzy and Duffy, for her love of French Impressionist painters, for her disdain of the Modern Wing, for her love of barbecue ribs and ice cream, for her distrust of cucumbers, for her faith that Yoga could cure all, for her travel adventures with Dave, and for her love of her Lord.
Jan leaves behind friends, family, coworkers, book club members, a devoted daughter and son, four grandchildren, and one great-grandson—all who grieve deeply at her passing, but thankfully all know the worth and value of this extraordinary woman, who likely would never have believed how wonderful she truly was. Janice persevered through the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease, which she managed with grace and dignity, and which despite being a challenging disease, failed to define her.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Janice’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
