John James Gallo, Sr., age 82, a lifelong resident of Chicago passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on January 28, 2022.

John James Gallo, Sr. was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 18, 1939, the only son of James and Antionette nee Crist. Loving husband to Barbara (Bicanich). Devoted father to Diane (John) Jensen and John (Laura) Gallo, Jr. Proud Papa to Jennifer, Jeremy, and Jaclyn Jensen and Annalyse and Giana Gallo. Adored Son-In-Law of Anne Bicanich; Cherished brother of Marianne Schultz and Judith (Rich) Plodzien. Fond uncle to Tony (Linell) Schultz, JoAnne (Schultz) Scott, Michael (Lauren) and Nicholas Plodzien. Treasured cousin of many.

John resided in his Chicago home for 72 years. He attended and graduated from Lloyd Elementary School and Foreman High School. It was in this same neighborhood that he met his wife of 56 years Barbara. He worked as a Mold Maker for years and reluctantly retired at 68 years old.

John touched everyone’s life in one way or another. To know him was to love him. His deepest love was doing things with and for his children and grandchildren. He devoted many years as a league officer at Amundsen Park. He also coached and was instrumental in starting the girls softball league at Amundsen too. While Diane and John were in grammar school and high school he served on the PTA and School Council. In addition, he loved his time with the Booster Club at St. John’s Lutheran and Luther North. In between all of this he also found time as a Scout leader. He continued all of these active roles with his grandchildren too. He never missed a softball, football or volleyball game, a dance recital, choir event or stage performance.

In his free time, John loved to go camping and fishing. He enjoyed watching all Chicago sporting events, but particularly loved the Cubs. He also treasured his time with friends bowling and playing cards, as well as playing softball too.

Beside his family, he leaves behind many that will forever miss him; his bowling & card buddies, camping friends, and the Schultz boys.
