John T. Hobscheid, born in Chicago on Nov 19, 1958 suddenly passed away on Feb 17, 2024 at the age of 65.

John was preceded in death by the late Carl Hobscheid and Chris (Burke) Hobscheid, who departed before him. He became a loving husband at two different points in his life, both to whom he cherished and adored. His first wife, Carol, who passed before him on January 24, 2012, and Cheryl A. Banks-Hobscheid who stands with us today alongside his two children and their families. He was a dear father to his son John Hobscheid Jr (Vicki), and granddaughter Cassidy, and his daughter Katie “Kit” Hobscheid. As well as many others that he would come to call family of his own, his mother-in-law Leah D. Banks, his brothers-in-law: Charles Robert Banks Jr. (Mary), Michael B. Banks (Joanne), Robert “Bob” Hospodka, and his nephew and niece Matthew R. Banks and Amanda N. Kalacinski (Steven).

John graduated from DePaul University, while he obtained his degree in computer science, after graduating he worked for numerous insurance agencies. He then worked for AllState Insurance for 12 years and when he left he continued his love of sports by officiating multisports. He had countless stories no matter what the game may be, but through that passion he touched the lives and hearts of many people. Whether he was known as a teammate, coach, the official, the parent cheering on the side, or just a friend, he always had a story to tell. It opened up the avenue for him to learn, grow, and support not only himself, but those he loved. His smile lit up a room and he always found a way to make anyone laugh, even through the toughest of times.

John belonged to the FVB (Fox Valley Blue’s Association) for many years. He was a High School official for multiple sports. His goal was always to go to state in baseball and football. In 2022, he went on to go to state for the 8-man Championship games for football. He followed this up when he went to state in 2023 for Baseball. He was a huge part of the JVB Program for Baseball in Barrington–teaching young men and women to umpire the game of baseball that he always loved. John will be missed by all the lives he touched.
