Robert Bernardin, age 89 of Bloomingdale; beloved husband of Dolores; devoted father of Lewis Bernardin, Perry Bernardin, Desiree Buyle, Edith Munaco and Camille Slade; loving grandfather of 17 and great grandfather of 1; dear brother of Betty Zurzolo, Raymond Bernardin and the late Sam Bernardin; dear uncle of several nieces and nephews and he was a cousin of the late Cardinal Joseph L. Bernardin. Bob Bernardin was a family man. He grew up on Taylor Street in Chicago, where he enjoyed playing baseball with his neighborhood friends, and learned to love the Blackhawks and White Sox. After high school, he served as a U.S. Marine stationed in Southern California, which throughout his life, he took great pride in. Upon returning, he met and married his wife of 62 years, Dee. They were inseparable. Soon, they started a family. Working as a Union Carpenter, he completed the woodworking at The Indian Lakes Resort and Woodfield Mall. Yet, he still made time to be a father to his five children, making sure he was home for family dinner every night, and taking them on countless vacations. He gave simple, yet unforgettable advice, and even in his late years, he never complained. Bob will be missed by all those whose lives he touched, and his strong, calm presence will be remembered by everybody who knew him.
