Dr. Dominic “Dom” Costabile, age 79, of Lisle, IL, passed away peacefully on April 4th, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife & family at Edwards Hospital in Naperville, IL. Dom was the beloved son of the late Manfred and Mary Costabile, nee Santella. He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Costabile, nee Weisseg; his sister Mary (Bill) Bilyk; in-laws; close cousins; many loving nieces and nephews; and a vast circle of friends whose lives he touched deeply. He was preceded in death by his siblings Raphael “Ralph” (Kathleen) Costabile, Louis (Jackie) Costabile, Michaeline (Leo) Rojek, and Geneva (Egbert) Tiezzi. Dom was born on January 20th, 1946, in Chicago, IL, and married Barbara on March 26th, 1983. He was her loving husband for the last 42 years, and together they shared a wonderful marriage, filled with deep companionship, laughter, and mutual devotion. A cherished presence in his community and among his extended family, Dom was a man of many talents and endless curiosity. He delighted in sharing his passions with his nieces and nephews, and was always the first to lend a helping hand. To Dom, no one was ever a stranger—only a friend he hadn’t met yet. He had a gift for conversation, but an even greater gift for listening. Dom proudly served in the U.S. Air Force until 1969. He graduated from Lane Tech High School in 1964 and went on to earn his B.S. in Biological Sciences (Pre-Medical) from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1971. After further studies in Italy and earning numerous academic honors, he received his medical degree from Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1984. A devoted Family Medicine physician, Dom cared for countless patients throughout his career with compassion and integrity. His work extended beyond the clinic—he volunteered with the Blackfeet Volunteer Medical Corps and supported the education and career of Sister Doctor Beatrice. Even after retiring from traditional practice, he continued to care for others through his Functional Medicine clinic. Dom was a lifelong learner and found joy in woodturning, gourmet cooking, and restoring classic cars. He was a proud member of the Antique Whizzer Motorbike Club, the Morton Arboretum, and the Windy City Woodturners Club. As a doctor, he healed with more than medicine—he healed with kindness, presence, and soul. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering generosity. Though his absence leaves an ache in our hearts, we are forever grateful for the gift of his life. Visitation details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Dr. Dom Costabile’s name may be made to the Lisle Benedictine Sisters’ Imiliwaha Fund

Dom was my friend for almost 60 years. We were roommates at UI. He needed a study partner for all his premed so I was naturally drafted. All the hours forged a bond I can’t forget. He was a part of my family. He kept our friendship despite long gaps in time and distance. His voice could always bring back so many memories. I will always miss him but I’m forever thankful for the blessing of knowing him.

Dom was my Beautiful friend and Functional Medicine mentor, a wonderfully unique, compassionate and loving man, with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and deep passion for ethical, holistic health care. We met while working for Dupage Medical Group and reconnected at an Institute for Functional Medicine conference years later. After his many years in Family Practice (FAANP), Dom went on to receive 3 more certifications in Ultrasonography, Functional Medicine, and Lifestyle Medicine, broadening his scope of practice even further, and assisting many to wellness..too numerous to count. Deepest Respect and Gratitude in my heart for Dr Dom and his Beautiful, Loving and Supportive wife, Barb <3

Dominic was a wonderful man, a caring physician, a gentleman who would try to make everyone he met welcome. I will always remember how he would include new physicians into our meetings, his inquisitive nature and love of learning new things. He was a friend with a big heart and a wonderful smile. He will be remembered in my heart for his kindness and his willingness to share his knowledge and time. My sympathies to his wife and family for their loss.

Dom was a friend to everyone and always willing to help without being asked. When my daughter was applying to medical school he gave advice and encouragement when she needed it. I remember his enthusiasm, love of learning and sense of humor. We will miss Dom.

Dom was not a close friend of mine but I got to know him through an annual holiday party with a group of fellow motorcycle riders. The connection of course was through the Whizzer Motorbike club. You cant be a stranger with Dom he would embrace you whether you were a life long acquaintance or someone he saw once a year. Dom was kind to everyone-the world needs more like him!
