Guido R. Calcagno of Streamwood, IL passed away peacefully on October 19th, 2022 surrounded by his family.

Guido was a devoted father to Jason (Dana) Calcagno and Simone (Scott) Gordon. Beloved papa to Joey, Gracie, and Sam. He was a loving son to the late Cuneo and Ruth Calcagno. He was a brother to the late Gus Kanakas and Nikki Skogseth. He was a good friend and co-parent with the late Cheryl J. Calcagno.

He is survived by his youngest brother Cuneo Calcagno along with many nieces and nephews all of which he adored. He also has a host of other family friends that he had a special bond with and his fur companion, Lucy, his dog of 14 years.

Guido enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He always loved to have a house full of people to eat and laugh with. He loved to cook and bake; it was a passion of his. He also enjoyed playing cards or going for a long drive. He always had an open door and an ear to lend.

Guido will always be remembered for many wonderful things, but mostly for his huge, kind, and generous spirit. He loved his family and friends and would do anything for them. He may have had the smallest house, but always had the biggest home!

Dear Jason, Simone and Families, It has been several years since we have seen your dad and we just learned of his passing! We probably haven't seen you since you were much younger also! Guido was so fortunate to be surrounded by a loving family. We have such wonderful memories of him....he was such a kind, caring, patient and fun-loving person. He also had visited me several times when I had an overnight job at Meijer. He was one of those friends you could just pick up from where you left off even if you didn't see each other for awhile. "Some people make a difference just by being who they are, and their inner light shines bright and touches lives both near and far, and even when they're gone, they still forever play a part in the smiles, the priceless moments, that are treasured in the heart." Condolences to the whole family.

Dear Simone, Jason and family; Please accept my most sincere condolences on Guido's passing. Heaven is much richer right now with his presence. He had to be the most compassionate and caring man i have ever met. I was in college when Cheryl and he announced their engagement. Mom (Aunt Mil) called me at school. She said "Wait until you meet the fellow Cheryl Jean is engaged to. You're going to love him." And, surely I did, He was like a brother to me. I was the recipient of many Easter lamb cakes. When i was caregiving for Dad, Mom, Jack and Irv, he would quietly come inside, STOCK the refrigerator with DELICIOUS healthy food for us. He was a life saver. In our retirement years, HE stayed at our home and watched our dogs like NO ONE else could, so that we could travel extensively. Many people say "Well, it was the least I could do". Guido consistantly did the MOST he could do. And, there was no talking him out of it. I can't even begin to name ALL the wonderful, thoughtful things he did for my family, when we needed it most. When he was in physical therapy across from Alexian Brother's hospital, I had the honor of going to some of his therapy treatments. The occupational therapy one day was making sure he could make his own meals when he got home. COOKING. (I thought, COOKING? WATCH THIS!) The assigment was to make toasted cheese sandwiches. The young female therapist was hovering over him, and he said "Please go sit down. The sandwiches will be done soon." She and I watched as he prepared them, added some extras, served them, and the drinks, and proceeded to then go wash the untensils, and pan, and clean up the area. The sandwishes were not only delicious, but, he did it in record time. This, after suffering a stroke. He ACED the assigment. And the young therapist was STUNNED. He couldn't talk much, but, he sure as heck could still COOK! I'll never forget that day. And many other days over all the years when he absolutley came through in spades. And, as stated here in another guestbook entry, he came through for EVERYONE. He was not predudiced. If ANYONE had a baby, a loss, a birthday, or any other special occasion or was in trouble somehow, HE WAS THERE, armed with a plethura of excellent food. I have missed him terribly during the pandemic, but we talked regularly. He never complained. More interested in how I was, and what I was up to. I'm hoping he is running right now. Fast, well, and far, feeling great, and adding wonderful things there in heaven. We all know that he will. Most sincere condolences on your loss. MANY people share your grief right now. Love, Aunt Gail

Mr. C you were everything to everyone you met! You were ALWAYS an inspiration as you could show that money isn't what it takes to be the greatest person - it was the love you always had shown for everyone. From the meals you would prepare for special occasions (or just because) or the way you always remembered everyone's birthday & would make a cake, to even creating ALL the Easter Lambs for everyone else (with the help from all your girls in your life)! You were so important to our family!! You truly were the only Dad Al has ever known, The corrective grandfather to our children, my second dad, and my confidant! The world will never be the same without you. Thank you for adopting my family & always watching over my mom & children while I worked - I couldn't have done it without you!! I am thankful your suffering on this earth is done & you are walking with no pain or ailments. God has taken you home & Heaven is rejoicing to welcome you home. Rest my friend! It's not Good-Bye, but Until we meet again.
