John Catalano, age 79, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022. John is survived by his wife
Priscilla, daughter Michelle (Jason) and son Michael (Carly).

John was born in Chicago, IL on November 1, 1942 to Carmello and Catherine Catalano. At
age 16, he went to work with his father in the auto radiator repair business. Shortly after that
time, John began dating his eventual wife of 54 years, Priscilla. After their marriage in 1967,
John became partners with his father, operating Mel and Sons Auto Radiator Repair for nearly
35 years. John was well regarded by those who knew him as being honest, thoughtful and hard
working.

John was a loving husband and devoted father. He was a sports fan, an avid golfer and loved to
play cards with anyone who could put up with his relentless heckling around the card table.
Without question, his number one passion in life was his family, from his wife and children, his
mother and father, his brothers and sisters, and his cousins and friends. He valued those
relationships higher than anything else in the world.

His last hours of his life were very happy, enjoying them on a date with his beloved wife, over a
fantastic meal he raved about from the first bite to the moment he walked out the door.

John and I shared a name along with many memories. Having both come from large Italian families that were not creative in naming their boys, there were a lot of John’s. So, the fun began with the nicknames. In a room full of John Catalano’s, we were Beanzie and John John or JJ or Jaybird. Beanzie was always Beanzie or Beanz. Even when I was a child, John had a soft spot for me. Although, not always allowed to play cards by my parents, John would let me play poker with the men on club nights. I learned how to mix a drink and earned many dollars fetching drinks for the men too. I worked with John and Mel at the radiator shop right out of school. I was a cocky kid who had a hard time showing up for work on time. It was John and Mel that taught me work ethic and encouraged me to push myself. This has stayed with me through my life and served me well in my career and family. Those early mornings at the shop are hard habits to break. Even on Sundays when John made us get up at the crack of dawn to get that first tee time. But I know now as a family man he golfed that early to then spend time with his family. To this day, another lesson learned following his footsteps. It is funny to look back at life and think of those important people who helped shape us, and Beanzie had a hand in mine. God Bless.

It saddens me tremendously to know that I will never see my Uncle John (Beans) again. I will miss him very much. I am hoping that there is an awesome golf course in heaven for him to play. All my love to my Aunt Pril, and cousins Michelle and Mike (and Jason and Carly) for their loss. I know they all loved each other very much and that love for each other will help them through this pain.

I really did not know John, only had a dinner with him and his family once. I do know that he was a gracious, kind man, always. I had the pleasure of meeting him because his son Michael was such a very good friend to my son Michael. One thing that I do know, is he and his wife raised two very awesome children, and he transferred his love of family to them. John, I KNOW you were loved, and you will be missed so much, but what a gift you have left your family.
